Expectations: Friend or Foe
When I have expectations, they often get disappointed.
- How would you feel if what you expected to happen did not?
- What if something else happened that you did not expect to occur, happened instead - how would you feel then?

How would you feel if what you expected to happen did not? I try not to expect anything tbh and it helped me in the past, much less frustration. Before that time though I felt bad, often I saw me as the one having caused it not to happen.
What if something else happened that you did not expect to occur, happened instead - how would you feel then? I am grateful for any positive surprise.
@soulsings i don't know but it's hard to let them go and i am interested by tips
@butterlycow I think one thing that helps is to write all my expectations down in a journal or notebook and mark the ones U for unrealistic or R for realistic or N for not sure.
Then for any unrealistic expectations, write how to make them more realistic if possible.
Try that and see what happens.
@soulsings i will thanks

- How would you feel if what you expected to happen did not? If i am expecting something it is because it has either been promised or has been shown to be the norm. I would be disappointed.

What if something else happened that you did not expect to occur, happened instead - how would you feel then? This depends on what it is. If Some one walked up and offered me chocolate i would be fine with it. If someone walk up to me and spilled their drink on me and didn't even care to apologies i would be put off and feel like I don't belong where i am.

I have a very hard time dealing with expectations that aren't met. I feel profoundly disappointed when it isn't the case but also meaningless if I don't hold any. I also always expect the worst, so if something good happens, at least, I can be positively surprised -sometimes 😂-. I expect from myself or things that are under my controls. Not others (well, I try hard not to...).

Depend if it is something positive or negative. Positive, as I said, agreeably surprised. If it is negative, I feel completely miserable for a while and then implement the new data / experience to take into consideration the next time.
@Polahn I think most people have problems with expectations so you are not alone.
Oh yes, I agree and wasn't really worry about it, I was just sharing my experience 😊. I think having expectations is part of Human condition 😉.

How would you feel if what you expected to happen did not? More likely something I did NOT expect happens... However it really depends how much importance I was giving to it and whether it is an accident or not. If you were looking forward to "it", I suppose there's some disappointment.
What if something else happened that you did not expect to occur, happened instead - how would you feel then? This question is not clear in its syntax. As a has-been professional translator, I am at loss. If you mean that you get another result from the one you expected, how would you feel? Does it not depend on scale or a pos/neg event?
@Fradiga fair question. I guess I was thinking that if something else happens positive or negative how would you receive that when you expected something else to happen.? Is that better?

I wonder if you are not thinking of something specificAn example would be welcome

How would you feel if what you expected to happen did not? It would be disappointing of course. I've found it best to try not to have any expectations, although some days that's easier said than done.

try not to expect too much out of others, it’s not fair to you or them. Expect for yourself to try and be the best version of you that you can be through accountability and discipline toward your goals. Count on yourself first and you’ll start to notice you expect less in general.
@fairmindedTalker1988 I try to make my expectations real and reasonable.
Take care of yourself
