How do you think people can build self-confidence and a positive self-image?
@akunknown
You made some good points! Expanding your comfort zone and not caring about what others say (unless they are particularly important to you, of course) will definitively help to feel more confident in life!
@akunknown
By not allowing others actions to be taken as any kind of reflection of ourselves. If they want to act a certain way let them.

It might come with age. But before you get old, there will be some battles you must prepare for and win. Choose those battles carefully and start with small wins. My first win as a teen was getting actual p@ntyhose instead of wearing childish socks with my mother's reluctant permission. It was a good idea to discuss this with my dad in the room (thanks again, Papa!).
Beware of people who rain on your parade (that might include your own family).
I have a bunch of elderly female friends here in this small town whose childhood and life have not been the best: abandoned by one or both parents, very little schooling, never travelled anywhere, abused later on by husbands, factory work with low pay and more abuse... they are fatalistic about all this but not necessarily sad. They are actually people that you can't talk to about self-confidence or positive self-image. Those concepts would be totally foreign to their line of thought.
How do you think people can build self-confidence and a positive self-image?
@Fradiga
I had to cut out people who wanted to spoil my happiness or, like you say, "rain on your parade" and it did me well. Sorry to hear about what those elderly female friends had to go through!
@amiablePeace77
I am glad to hear that you were able to do that. I know of people who ought to do cut off the friends who regularly make others feel bad, but are unable for diverse reasons. It is much harder with family of course, but the best you can do there is to minimize interactions.
Yes, some lives are pitiful, but thank goodness these persons do not need psychotherapy. They probably see that people around them have similar situations and think it is absolutely normal. So why complain?

By ignoring the noise. Do what you want, not what is expected of you. Be positive about yourself and your thoughts.

With my background and logical mind I have always researched my health related issues and been proactive in managing them. I'm not particularly spiritual but after recent books and articles on Cups I am softening and becoming more receptive. Gratitude and emotion journalling has been helping with my mindset .
In answers of youe question I've started writing to myself each day and also tries some guided self compassion sessions.
First part of my night shifts I listen to podcasts or audiobooks, one of last night's lecture was on self compassion from a series of lectures on the 'The Science Of Mindfulness' course on Audible.

Something that has helped my self-esteem is doing "mirror work." I take a couple minutes every day to stand facing a mirror and say out loud the things I like or love about myself. It can be physical traits like, "I love the color of my eyes" or it can be qualities you have like, "I love that my compassion." It's like combining affirmations with gratitude.

self-confidence was a hard one for us but we built it up by doing new things and by allowing others to see them this made us feel better like we say we was good at some things so we try new ones so on we learned it ok to say what we good as a child even into adult life we was put down a lot but we have better self confidence now but still working on this too
a positive self-image we learned that outside looks not important as how one acts this helped us to have a better self image compassion and being supportive for us made us feel better about self
Hey everyone
I just wanted to share some thoughts about mental well-being and what’s been helping me lately. I think so much of our stress comes from just running on autopilot or getting stuck in our own head. Even small things like taking a few minutes to notice how you feel, writing down what’s on your mind, or doing something simple you enjoy can make a difference.
Another thing I’ve noticed is how important it is to give yourself some space. You don’t always have to fix everything at once or be productive all the time. Being kind to yourself and accepting that some days are harder than others actually makes it easier to handle the tough moments.
It’s also helpful to connect with others, even in small ways. Talking with someone who listens without judgment or just being around supportive people can remind you that you’re not alone.
I’d love to hear what routines or small habits have helped you all feel more balanced. We can learn a lot from each other.

You made some good points indeed! Running on autopilot can mean running in unhealthy directions, so it's good to stop at times and ask yourself, "Is what I am thinking now really true?" or use the STOP technique a few times during the day.
