Completely unscientific, but this is what helps me:
- Melatonin gummies - I've also had luck with Ashwagandha gummies, but they're typically more expensive and don't work as consistently.
- Warm food - This doesn't work for everyone. Sometimes I just need to eat before bed: a small snack, preferably warm. Cold food (like ice cream or pie from the fridge) tends to wake me up.
- A sleep mask - Around here, it can get quite bright at night. A sleep mask (or blindfold, if you like) not only blocks the moonlight but makes me feel calmer. Don't tell anyone, but I just drape a t-shirt over my eyes and it works just as well as a sleep mask 😋
- Weighted blanket - To be clear, I don't actually own one. My blankets are heavier, though, and can do wonders for calming me down when I'm anxious or restless.
- Cozy TV before bed - My favorite is Midnight Diner, and it works for my kids too! However, I would imagine any calm, kinda boring TV show could work. When I was a kid, I would watch Dragnet to fall asleep.
- Masturbation - This can be kind of a reset button for me 😅 It has to be really lowkey, though. Anything too intense or elaborate tends to wake me up instead of calm me down for sleep.

I don't know if this is for everyone, but I listen to a podcast or a "sleep story" to fall asleep. It helps me not have any screens lit up, but still have something i can focus on (instead of my thoughts). Definitely has worked for me everytime!
