I started again to meditate right before sleep, so after I watched movies. Seems to help more than doing it before I watch television.

@amiablePeace77 I avoid TV or movies before sleep but I can see how meditating could help to get the mind calmed down.

I currently do a self guided meditation. Most of the time I am asleep before I finish & if my mind wanders I let go were ever unless it’s a line of thought that is not restful.

  1. Breath work - I chose a pattern that feels the best most calming for that night, for as long as I need to
  2. Muscle relaxation - I normally start at my feet and work my way up by major muscle groups & joints. Unless there is a part of my body that is extremely tense ( jaw ,neck, shoulders) then I start there.
  3. (optional) I will visualize walking by a gentle forest stream, sitting on the rocks near a waterfall in a forest, or walking / resting on a calm beach at sunset.

What improvement do I want to make?

probably drinking an herbal tea befor bed, I need to drink more anyway, and that is one step I can take.

@TealPhotog that sounds like a well thought out plan

It doesn’t always work, and it took a lot of time to figure it out. The interesting thing is, each night is different, but the framework stays the same.

  • I started reading books and stretching before bed. I find it especially helpful before big days. Note, I tried reading before and it didn't make me sleepy, but combined with stretching seems to work for me haha.
  • I would like to improve on how many hours of sleep I get consistently.

What is one improvement you made to your bedtime routine that helps you get to sleep?

I get good sleep because I pray the night before. It helps me relax and calm my mind.

What is one improvement you would like to make to your bedtime routine?

I would like to eat a light meal before I go to bed.

For some time now, I have not had racing thoughts before I finally conk out. My dog and I also sleepi back to back (he outside the covers and me inside) and we keep each other warm. I read in bed until I feel my eyes closing.

I am still one of those people who fight bedtime so it is usually late.

I also wear wool socks. All the more that my bedroom is the same temperature than whatever it is outside.

No improvement needed. I sleep long nights most of the time

Your winters are colder than mine in the SW Centre of France. It can freeze overnight here, but rarely in the day.

The house is a big old thermic sieve. The living area is heated with a wood stove here but not the bedrooms. I have used a mattress warmer in years past but the dog now does the job.

An electric radiator is turned on ahead of time in the bathroom if you plan to take a shower. Yes, we do have hot water at least 😃

@Fradiga sounds like the dog beat out the mattress warmer and got the job! lol

Yes winters are colder here and it sounds like it is a lot warmer here than there. Glad it is working for you.

@Mano362

This is a great thought. Of course one should clear what we can during the day so we don't go to bed with those issues at night.

It might also help to jot down what needs doing the next day.

Some people do write in their diaries at night before bedtime often for the same purpose

Sleeping earlier and journaling before sleeping.

  • What is one improvement you would like to make to your bedtime routine?

Having more people to sleep with me 😂😂😂 so we can talk about stuff till we all just…..sleep. I think that’d be fun but also productive and beneficial for everyone who participates in this.
