@soulsings

This is a huge problem for me. I do not think highly of myself and can become my own worst enemy.

@courageouspanda2006 oh no that is a hassle you could do without.

Hi, on the subject of self worth, a good starting point is to acknowledge that you have recognised the 'self talk' going on. In other words, a space has opened up in you that has enabled you to see the thoughts, rather than being caught in the 'story' unconsciously. That is all that needs to happen.

@Steeeb that sounds like a promising strategy.

Yes! This is so important. Once a person opens up to this awareness is brings more power for action. To change and control some of that self-talk.

@soulsings

Good question

I think our mind can be our worst enemy. It's easy to say, "I'll treat myself well today" but most times the thoughts are "why am I like this?" Or "I'm not good enough"

I typically start off my day, in peace and quiet. Enjoying my morning coffee before anyone else gets up and then those thoughts just go right out the window.

@braindamag3 impermanence can wreck all our expectations because what we want changes or disappears. I have to look at and reevaluate my expectations.

I learned to treat myself with respect, so no harsh or painful self-talk and take time to reward myself for things I do well.

This is huge problem for me because I never really had a chance to I feel like I was siblings that everyone wanted to humble so even when I feeling good something humble me and tell me that's gonna work don't fill yourself. How do think highly of yourself without it hurting others?

@zaza87 every problem can be a blessing too.

Hi,

Rewarding yourself for doing well, as mentioned above, has a flip side: punishing yourself when you do 'bad'. Days come and go: some are more productive than others, but our value never changes: it's above results.

@Steeeb when I do not live up to expectations I try to remind myself "I am doiong the best I can under the conditions" I treat myself like a child and try to be understanding and kind as much as possible.

Hi,

Your original question asked how we can promote a healthy self-worth through our thinking.... that sounds like hard work and maybe some days it doesn't work. How about if our value was like this chair i am sitting on? I don't need to think about it: it's there; it's there supporting me. If we are life, and all of us are life expressing itself, then we have value, regardless of what we do.

@Steeeb that is possible if we base our self worth on the inside virtues and values we cherish.

I'm 63 and have had a couple of people remind that I am in the end stage of my life. I tend to act childlike via wishful thinking, so people seem to think I hsve forgptten. Hey, age is great for goal setting and I plan to enjoy my golden years. Hopefully, I will have plenty of time to get it right.🤭

I'm planning to make an excuse to skip a family dinner because I get anxious around them. This should apparently protect my mental peace.
