What Makes You Feel Enthusiastic?
What is enthusiasm?
It may come as a surprise to many people, when they first look up the word enthusiasm, to see that its original meaning has to do with passion for religion, rather than passionate or eager interest in general. By the beginning of the 18th century, however, the word began to be used to describe having strong feelings or interest in secular matters.
- So remember the last time you were enthusiastic about life. How would you describe that feeling?
- What activity(s) bring back that zest for living?
- What is something you might want to try to do to nurture your enthusiasm?

@soulsings it was about religion, you learn something new everyday ❤
Being enthusiastic to me, is a feeling/reminder of how wonderful humans and life is. Just the feeling of wow! This world is magic😁
art and crafts makes me enthusiastic, when I start a project, I just have so much fun. Nature makes me enthusiastic, when you see the colours of the sky, or a bird fly, it's magic! Just magic. Learning cool things makes me feel enthusiastic, so much mystery, so much beauty. This world is a great place ❤
@soulsings I didn't know that ^^ thank you for sharing :)
So remember the last time you were enthusiastic about life. How would you describe that feeling?
Hopeful. It's a great feeling to wakeup and have a purpose, something to hold on, to work for and dream about.
What activity(s) bring back that zest for living?
Anything that brings in peace. Spending time on my own helps me find new motivation for things.
What is something you might want to try to do to nurture your enthusiasm?
I would like to go on vacations to beautiful destinations. I would also like to build some kind of safe retreat for myself where I can be without influences from outside. Silence like that can help bring answers for so many questions floating in the mind.
@soulsings That is very interesting. I had to look it up too. Divine inspiration. It is like excitement that goes beyond yourself.
Usually the only times I feel enthusiastic anymore are when I’m doing something with my kids. It could be a project, an upcoming trip. I think it’s a sense that I’m doing something good for them, being a positive presence in their lives.
It has been decades since I’ve felt enthusiasm for myself. It’s hard to remember how I felt back then. I think it was a sense of hope and adventure, imagining what I wanted for my life, traveling and learning. The funny thing is, there have been some changes in my life that have brought this feeling back over the last couple weeks. That may not seem like a very long time, but for me it has been. I can’t remember the last time I have had this kind of respite from depression.
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas You are doing something so precious for your kids and that is spending time with them, being excited to share the space with them <3 Looking back they'll always appreciate that. Cause I know I do and hold all those times close to my heart ^-^
I love that you are grateful for the respite and I believe people who are grateful for such simple things are the ones who deserves them the most. I hope your sense of hope and adventure finds a way back to you and stays for a long time :)
@BlueDarkAurora Oh my gosh, this was such a nice message. My eyes are tearing up. Thank you so much. ❤️
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas <3 <3 ^-^ you're welcome

- So remember the last time you were enthusiastic about life. How would you describe that feeling? I don't remember the last time I was enthusiastic. It was before I stopped drinking some 5 years ago. I do somewhat remember the feeling but don't have words to describe it.
- What activity(s) bring back that zest for living? Nothing.
- What is something you might want to try to do to nurture your enthusiasm? As always I am deficient in my ability to envision this change.
@Gettingbettertoday I am at a loss what to say. Maybe enthusiasm is too much to ack. Maybe contentment or acceptance might be enough.
What do you thinik?
@soulsings
I do remember what Contentment feels like but have only had it at one finite time in my life. I don't know about acceptance as it is used in this context. I have already accepted that I have very little power to affect the world around me in a positive way.
@soulsings
Thank you for sharing. I learned something new!
- So remember the last time you were enthusiastic about life. How would you describe that feeling? What activity(s) bring back that zest for living? What is something you might want to try to do to nurture your enthusiasm?
Every time I go into my garden, I feel enthusiastic about all what nature has to offer. I get excited about what new veggies I could try to plant and how I could use them. Gardening is a daily routine for me which I love very much so I am always learning about things, especially how we can live in more harmony with nature without harming it by pesticides.
