What Would You Like to Ask a Therapist?

Hi 7 Cups Online Therapy Community! :)

We are planning some upcoming Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with therapists, and we would love to hear from you.

If you could ask a therapist anything, what would it be?

You might be curious about things like:
• Why we repeat certain relationship patterns
• How to cope with anxiety, stress, or burnout
• Ways to improve communication with a partner or family member
• How to set boundaries without feeling guilty
• Dealing with grief, loss, or big life changes
• Understanding your emotions better

There are no wrong questions. If something has been on your mind or something you have always wondered about therapy, this is your chance to share it.

🌻Please add your topic ideas below and help shape the upcoming AMA sessions.🌻

I know this isnt the kind of question you are after here, but I’ll give it a go anyway!

As an aspiring therapist, how do you become a therapist? How do you get professional experience because I truly cannot find any, but I can’t progress without experience. I work here on seven cups as an unofficial volunteer to try and help in the mean time but it’s really hard. I’m so mentally drained from my bachelor's im scared to do a masters, but I can’t do anything without further education! It feels like everything is blocked off you know?

Firstly I want to thank you for volunteering on 7 Cups. You are gaining a lot of experience and helping others. Being a therapist is about helping and caring. This is why we do the work we do.
Of course education is critical but our heart, our passion, is an integral part of this.
Volunteering is how many of us gain our experience and practicum hours also.
Learning how to be kind to ourselves and good self care is another very important component of our work. You are learning this while juggling your studies plus volunteering here and taking care of your personal life.
Everything I have written here you are already doing!
I thank you for your big heart and your dedication to helping others.
One step at a time you will get through all this. You are brave, self disciplined, and caring.
Be kind to yourself please!

These are all such wonderful questions and I am thinking that perhaps looking at emotional regulation coping skills might be useful? I have also asked a few therapists to respond to these fantastic questions as just so many really interesting questions. Thank you for sharing each of you!

Hello and thank you for your question.
Yes the job can be hard at times but it is also so rewarding and meaningful!
I really appreciate the connection and trust that can build with clients. I am honoured that they share things with me that they haven't shared anywhere else. To me this work is sacred and precious, and humbling also. What I also like is that I have to keep growing and learning in all ways.
It is important that I do my best to practice good self care and to keep improving and growing.
Otherwise I am not 'walking the talk.'
On the other hand I am also human and fallible. It is important to have a sense of humour!

I have so many questions to ask and I'm excited when Q&A session will open but my first question is when someone after break up they do councelling for their mental health and peace. How do you handle situation with person you are doing therapy you know them for 5 days and you know the logic only and you don't know their soul. How someone can make their ex to red flags when they tried to do everything possible? That worked too fast and my ex think I'm red flags 🙃 never what you learn in 5 session you can't challenge the long term relationship
