hey
Seriously, isn't there a way to forget the past as naturally as one forgets to watch a TV?
So, hey guys, I'm new here. I'm from Brazil, and you?
@DuffRose welcome to 7 Cups. I am glad to meet you.
Forgetting the past is easy if there is no emotional charge to a situation. When someone was in a fight or won the lottery they remember those days more than what they had for breakfast last week. Emotions keep erupting as long as we are in conflict with them.
I feel the same. I wish the past woes wouldn't give so much pain. Sometimes I'm able to recollect the positives of the past. The challenge is to sustain that state for longer. Got to believe with a deep conviction in the positive direction of events.

I have a storied past , a lot I don’t remember, some I do , a lot I don’t want to. But the older I get and the longer I am here, I have come to realize the old adage about our past forming our future (making us who we are) is true. If we accept things and deal with issues / traumas as they come, not necessarily in the moment, but not bottle them up and bury them, figure out a way to grow positively from that experience. It is extremely difficult to do, near impossible but I wish I would have done exactly what I am saying 40+ years ago, maybe I wouldn’t be as messed up as I currently am.
All those things I bottled up, well a few years ago that bottle got shook and the lid blew off and disappeared, everything came bursting out at once and I had a serious breakdown, I am talking extreme breakdown.
My point is that no matter what it is forgetting it would be great but our minds are kind of like this World Wide Web thing , we can delete it but somewhere it is saved in some backroom file and there’s that chance it will be found and come back to haunt us. So figuring out a way to accept that whatever happened, happened, and fault does not matter. That event is over and how can I move forward from this? Talk to someone here about it, get the words out , don’t bottle it up. I am speaking from a lot of experience of not dealing with things and the consequences are not very pretty.
Take from this what you will, this is only my opinion and I am not in any way telling you what to do.
Thank you for reaching out.
@Iamwhoiamwhoami I am sorry you had to face such a challenge but you seem to have gone past it which is remarkable. Thank you for sharing.
@soulsings
Thank you.
I’m not past it by any means, I am still trying to get out from underneath the fallout of that .
But that is kind of what I was trying to get across, work things out as they come and as you’re able to try and avoid the outcome I am struggling with.
I always appreciate your kindness and support.
@Iamwhoiamwhoami you are welcome.
We do supportive group discussions that are carefully moderated. AmiablePeace77 is sitting in for me Monday and Wednesday but I am doing Tuesday and Friday if you care to drop in. https://www.7cups.com/forum/MindfulnessSupportCommunity_106/ResourceLibrary_1062/2017MindfulnessVideos_72071/
@soulsings Thank you but I am going to decline. I take too long to type my ramblings. My focus is too difficult to reign in.
