A Love of Sharing
Hello lovely people in the 7cups on-line therapy community, how are you doing today? 😊
Sharing has a direct connection with happiness. When we share our joy, food or simply give a hand to someone, we enjoy life more, naturally. That’s because we humans like to feel a sense of connection and meaning in our lives.
❤️ What are 1 or more things you can share with someone this week? It could be anything, a kind word, a letter, a smile, food, whatever is possible.
@amiablePeace77 kind words and smile. Costs nothing but is powerful way to change somebody's mood for better.
@bubblyMusic8287
I so agree with you! Just a simple smile can change someone's day!
@amiablePeace77 indeed😊.
@amiablePeace77 I like to tell people the positive traits I see in a person after they demonstrated them in their performance of duties. Not a white washing, but a realistic appreciation I like to give even if the person does not see that themselves.
well I shared my gift of making something, had a patient that needed a phone case he could put around his neck so he wouldn't loose it during his dialysis treatment, so I sewed him one in his favorite color.
Removing compliment focus from the physical e.g “have you lost weight? you look great!” and putting it to the character of the person is the most memorable and powerful thing you can do when you choose to say a kind word.
Avoid subliminally reinforcing societal beauty standards and expectations.
e.g
“whered you get your lashes done they’re great” (unless you actually want to know where)
“your ass looks so big in those jeans”
it makes the person or those around less comfortable with themselves or feel pressure to keep up the high effort look or weight loss because thats what gets them compliments. it is male gaze behind a mask of a ‘flattering’ compliment.
Compliments that are surface level make the person feel that their worth and what people value is ON the surface, and while it is plenty in this society, a change starts with you looking deeper and letting them know their soul is noticed too.
examples of kind words to appreciate someone;
you can even change up the words of a compliment on looks to still recognise their choices
”I like the way you did your hair!”
-personalised.
“you are a wonderful listener and your feedback is a great perspective for me”
remember compliments do not need to include self-depreciation in order to enforce what youre complimenting as valuable.
e.g
“you were very patient with that customer, that was refreshing to see you handle that well.”
instead of…
”you were very patient with that customer, i could never stay calm like i would not have handled that well.”
If it is a well intended compliment, there is no need to take the subject as yourself and compare yourself to what they did or who they are or even what they look like in the compliment. Its similar to saying “I’m sorry but’… it takes away from the meaning. if your compliment subtly is an ask for validation of yourself, dont mask it and just be straight up about your own difficulty.
If you do lack where they succeeded , a compliment such as;
”you were very patient with that customer, what did you do or think to stay calm? any tips?’
thank you guys goodbye!! -PG
