Unforgettable meals
When I was young I went with a group of friends to have lunch in another town. There was a Chinese Restaurant which was known for their food. We ordered all different kind of foods and shared with each other. The taste of the food was amazing and I loved that we had such a variety for everyone. Everybody had a good time because of the company and the amazing taste of what we all ordered.

What was a meal in your life you never forget because it was so good?
We went to a brunch buffet when we were on vacations. Individual meals were expensive at the place we were staying but the buffet was about the same as a meal. We ate so much we had nothing again till supper time. There were fresh figs and other fruits and lots of wonderful cooked dishes. I remember the figs because I had a lot of them. lol

I've never had figs but I want to try them. Where would I find the best figs?
@hardworkingStrings2265 I would suggest if you live in a climate where figs are grown, you check with local grocers. Figs are not as good weeks later so not sure what options are available in your local supermarket.

Sounds delicious, mmh fresh figs. A good brunch can be so filling! I often used to skip lunch on vacation but rather enjoyed a good breakfast or brunch too.
@amiablePeace77 I'll never forget all the delicious food I had when I visited Portland, Maine. No matter what I ate, it was delicious! I had a whole lobster too and that was a struggle to open, but it was worth it I think!! I definitely recommend visiting if you can! ❤️

Back in October of last year my job was having Secretary Appreciation Week and they gave us all gift cards for Doordash to get whatever we wanted for lunch delivered to us for free. I ordered a meal that I had 100 times before but this time I got a "Special" which meant that the meal came with sides and a drink. It was lightly fried buffalo chicken (I usually ordered the baked chicken) mildly spicy, baked potato chips, and pepsi. I had to order the chicken fried because the "Special" only offered the fried option so I settled for that. After all, it was being paid for by the company, lol. The chicken melted in my mouth and the sides complimented the chicken. Everything seemed to have more flavor. It was as though the restaurant made it their priority to make my meal right. It was better than ever. I haven't been able to get that meal made the same since. It's possible that they changed cooks. That meal was magnificent and for a moment (my 1 hour lunchtime that is) I was transported to an Italian restaurant in Sicily.

@hardworkingStrings2265 I have had meals like that. Thinking back I think that my state of mind was "special" and I never can create that moment again by getting the same food. So many moments of life are like that for me.

Yeah but that's what makes them so special. You have to chase those things and hold on to them.

Being French, we have this conversation, when a meal is super good, to talk about other meals where the food was also delicious, almost more than the one you are having right there. We just can't help it and if the cook is sitting with you, it can get awkward, but they know it's normal.
I tend to appreciate any meal I did not have to cook myself. Any particular meal that was memorable was not really about the food itself, but the guests and surroundings.

To me the company we have whilst eating plays an important role how we experience the whole setting and also the food. I find being with friends makes it always better!
Interesting conversation but I can see that it can feel awkward particularly for someone not being aware of that kind of talk after a meal.

Well, it is not AFTER, but DURING the meal that we talk about food. Other French people are aware and it does become an interesting conversation. "Aunt Monique is terrific with venison stew - Have you ever tasted the oysters in Auray ? - Pasta is really the best in Florence - Raviolis were a specialty in Nice before Nice was French or raviolis Italian - This leg of lamb reminds me of the way my grandmother's cook used to roast it." .... and the likes. It is not necessarily a comparison, but it signals that the food on the table is comparable to the best meal memories you have.

In a very large bowl filled with scallops clams mussels, shrimp in a nice sauce with three lobster tails sticking up on top - mmmmmmmmm

an unforgettable meal I have had, I guess wasn’t as much about the meal but the people I enjoyed it with. Similarly was a spread of Chinese food! One of my favorite people, whom is no longer with us , absolutely LOVED beef in oyster sauce. As horrifying as it sounded to me, I’m so happy she let me try it, it was quite delicious! In her memory I order it from time to time!
