When have you helped someone?
Hey everyone,
Let's try something to help people become more aware of our Emergency & Medical Personnel Support category on the forum, and spread some positive stories about what we have been up to!
Your mission is to share a time that you have been able to help someone, whether thats on cups, at work or day to day! Especially if you went above and beyond to make their day that little bit better.
Then tag two friends so they can do the same!
I will get us started:
It was a very cold day yesterday and I was able to help a patient at work by making sure they had a warm cup of tea and an extra blanket whilst waiting on the ambulance before going into hospital.

As student nurses, we had a performance task in our AnaPhy lab subject and we were tasked to bring antisera for blood typing, lancets, slides and alcohol and I volunteered to provide those things so that the class wouldn't have to buy or pay for those expensive things since my mom is a Medical Technologist and has those materials in her lab.

I suppose a time I helped someone was helping an intern on here figure their way around things, helping them plan etc. I became friends with a coworkers son and I suppose that helped him feel less bored when he has to go to his mums workplace?

About helping someone. Some weeks back, one of my friend was ill. So i used to help her and bring meal from the canteen and fill her water bottles. So it was all that i tried to help her as she was just having fever as was not doing well .

thanks for tagging me sweetpea. I will say being here on 7cups has opened my eyes to many things, and it's helped me with many more. I actually joined as a listener, because I talked to an amazing person, he was kind and really seemed to care, and now. we are friends, he doesn't know but he really helped.
Anyways
I helped keep my mom calm when she found out she'd need her 13th spinal surgery. She is doing great, and We are just waitin for the 28th!

This is not recent..this is about an year ago I think. When I was posted in surgery with three of my colleagues . Me and one of my friends was supposed to put and remove sutures and while two others were in charge of .. dressings (usually nurses do that but am talking about special dressing which are supposed to be done by doctors where they require debridement and also dressing for burns etc).
so an HIV patient came with a huge diabetic ulcer on leg and my two other colleagues were like..ugh. HIV patient and none of them wanted to do the dressing. I was suturing a patient nearby and I felt so bad for the patient. Here we have so much work load that the HIV patient was waiting for 30minutes already so I was like fine I'll do dressing you do the suturing so I switched places and decided to to do dressing for HIV patient. And he was happy that someone finally came to help him. I think it's all just a taboo. If you follow the special precautions wear proper gloves , Goggles and everything. Plus make sure you don't mix the sterilised guages up and dispos any needle and biomedical waste properly . You won't get it and no one else will. So that's it. I just wanted to highlight that even some medical personnels..can have such views about HIV patients which is sad.

I volunteer with a doctor and 2-4 other nurses every other weekend doing wound care at a homeless shelter. It is so rewarding for us all, and humbling. <3
