Check-in: Monday 9 and Tuesday 10, November 2020 - Trauma Support Community

Hello, wonderful people !
I wish you these days go smoothly, and you have a peaceful time the week ahead.
The idea I came up with for this check-in is
Hopes we have for our post-Covid life.
The Covid Pandemic affected, to various degrees. all of us. It set a grim background, of fear of the disease for us and our loved ones, a constant stream of worry and sad news both humane and economic.
It interrupted face-to-face group activities that are healing for us, from self-help groups, to sport teams, to art classes. It made impossible in many cases friend and family meetings. It blocked trips and vacation plans.
All this created a constant negative influence, with effects on our feelings and emotional health.
On the other hand, it made us value things we had taken for granted (it is said that we value things more when we lose them).
However...
While the pandemic is not over yet, an increasing proportion of the news about it is on the development of Vaccines.
The unprecedented vaccine development global effort is coming to fruition, and several vaccines are in their final stages of testing,
We know this pandemic will end, as vaccination campaigns will be deployed some months ahead.
The end is finally in sight.
Questions:
- How have you been feeling these days ?
- How did the Covid pandemic affect you emotionally ?
- Could you identify its effects in your emotional life, as a separate source of uneasiness and stress ?
- What have you learned to appreciate better ? Something that you lacked or lost because of Covid, lockdowns, restrictions, the news, etc.
- How the end of the pandemic will improve your emotional life ? What are your hopes ?
I look forward to your answers.
And wish you all the best !
Marcelo.

- How have you been feeling these days ? Lately I have been feeling scared. I think I get scared easily if everything and all emotions feels like a mess and there is no order
- How did the Covid pandemic affect you emotionally ? The pandemic has been challenging. Alot of things changed personally which I am still adjusting to. Some triggers became highlighted. The absue happened for most part of growing up
- Could you identify its effects in your emotional life, as a separate source of uneasiness and stress ? It caused alot of anxiety and fear. There is still some confusion over some things
- What have you learned to appreciate better ? Something that you lacked or lost because of Covid, lockdowns, restrictions, the news, etc. I think I have learned to appreciate how comforting it can be to console yourself and sometimes your own company is what you need instead of social interactions
- How the end of the pandemic will improve your emotional life ? What are your hopes ? Not too sure about this yet
@pencilmarks
I am sorry to know you were scared lately, with confused emotions. I wish you feel safer and have some peace and order in your emotional life.
It's understandable that the pandemic has been challenging for you., with lots of things in your life changing, in this chaotic external environment. Things that you do an effort to adjust to.
As the external conditions changed so drastically, some triggers get more intense and frequent. I am sorry to know the abuse lasted for such a long time.
You can identify that the pandemic caused you a lot of anxiety and fear. For one part, it is bad that it did. On the other hand, it is good that you could identify the pandemic as the source of some anxiety and fear. Hopefully, when the pandemic ends thanks to the vaccines, you will experience a reduced level of fear and anxiety.
You are absolutely right that to enjoy solitude is very important and healing. Those moments of peace, in the company of yourself, reduce anxiety, and promote calm reflection, which in turn is necessary for your emotional evolution.
You are right that how the future will affect us, is uncertain. I hope that the end of the pandemic helps you reduce fear and anxiety, and have more peace in your life.
@WelcomeToChat, hello there!
- How have you been feeling these days ?
I'm anxious right now because of my research subject this semester. I find thesis, and defense so scary.
- How did the Covid pandemic affect you emotionally ?
Honestly, it only affects me a bit. Maybe, I'm so used to stay at home because of my protective parents.
- Could you identify its effects in your emotional life, as a separate source of uneasiness and stress ?
I'm a bit anxious than before. Sometimes, I felt uncomfortable in my father's presence. It's great that he gave me lots of love, but him being overprotective must have had an impact in my mental growth.
- What have you learned to appreciate better ? Something that you lacked or lost because of Covid, lockdowns, restrictions, the news, etc.
I appreciated our house better.
It sucks that there are people who are homeless during this pandemic.
- How the end of the pandemic will improve your emotional life ? What are your hopes ?
I don't know how it will improve my emotional life yet. But, I'm hoping that I can go outside with a bit of freedom.
Thanks for the check-in and take care.
@LovelyOrangeJuice
I am sorry to know you felt so bad this past week, with high anxiety and some depression. I hope your mood improves in the following days.
It feels like the pandemic has hit you very hard at an emotional level. It is natural that this chaotic and scary situation made you anxious and stressed.
On the other hand, it is good that you can idetify the source of this extra anxiety and stress, in an abnormal external situation. I hope that you feel less anxious and stressed once the pandemic is over, next year.
The lockdowns also make us live all day, every day, confined in the house living with the same people, that might not be the most healthy company for us.
The possibility of living alone for a while looks like a good option.
I wish that you find peace, meaning, and hope in your life.
It is great that you identified walking in nature as a deep need. You can use this knowledge to do it as often as possible when the situation allows it, to feel better and promote your healing.
It is understandable that the effects of the end of the pandemic are uncertain, as we have never gone through this before. As the pandemic has caused a great proportion of your current stress and axiety, hopefully you will feel much better when the pandemic ends.
Al the questions you have about how it will be to live alone are right, as it would be a big change in your life. In the beginning, It will probably have some positive as well as some challenging effects on your emotional like.
Hi !
You are right that writing a thesis and defending it is scary. We expose ourselves, and we feel our self-esteem depends on how it will be evaluated. You are at the mercy of the professor, who is a human being with its own subjectivity and whims.
Do your best work, and try not to think of the grades. Be happy about doing the best job you can. Be proud of yourself for your work.
How good that you don't feel the impact of the lockdowns as much ! Being a "home person" had its advantages during this pandemic, as your lifestyle wasn't affected. Maybe you just feel a little more anxious than usual due to the external situation, and the general mood these times.
It seems that the relationship with your father is very important in your life. "Overprotective" sounds like "extremely protective", and so extremely loving and caring. It is your job to reach out of your "comfort zone" and look for his encouragement to take some small risks. Writing the thesis by yourself is a good example of that. As another example, it's nice that you are looking forward to doing more things outside your home once this pandemic ends.
It's great that you are more appreciative of having a nice home where to live, loving your home, and not just take it for granted.
And yes, absolutely, it sucks that there are people who are homeless. It's very unjust. Pointing to that shows you are a compassionate person.
Thank you for participating in this check-in !

I've been feeling okay these days. The pandemic has made me uncertain about my future as I'm working towards a degree in a specific field, and have to do fieldwork, but the industry's legal and medical guidelines keep on changing. Hopefully, I am safe.
It does make me more tired than usual but I am able to feel less stress as I've been able to set aside more time than usual for coping mechanisms. I have learned to appreciate not working in an office lol. I am most optimal at home. I wanna do freelance or something (as a side hustle).
My hopes are that the pandemic will teach people to take online interactions and networking more seriously.
@SynSavory
I am glad to know that you are feeling well these days.
I wish you that those changing legal and medical guidelines don't affect as much your fieldwork, and don't get in the way of your professional career development.
It's great that you have the discipline to practice regularly some anti-stress exercises, and that you set aside enough time to that. Few people do it, unfortunately. You are among those very few that take seriously their wellbeing.
Working at home can be a great experience. Besides the cozy environment, and managing your time at will, you don't waste time commuting. Hopefully this way of organizing work will stay, as many large companies have announced already.
The same with online interactions and networking. There has been a learning experience worldwide, and many of the practices that have been adopted during the pandemic, of taking full advantage of online interactions, will stay too.
Thank you for participating in this check-in !
