Hi, Thanks for the post.
Yes, I celebrate the Holiday and it will be with my immediate family here in the home. I am not so much into Christmas this year, maybe because of my age now. My adult daughter lives with my husband and myself. My daughter and I are the only two who really try to make Christmas pleasurable. My husband likes to get gifts, but he does not like to buy any so we have decided to return the favor by excluding him from our gift-buying and receiving. We bought them for each other and the great-grands.
I know this may sound mean but it is purposefully to the message I want to say to him. I am also not going to cook any meal so I hope he has a tv dinner.handy.😁

Hello, it's nice to hear from you again, and I understand what you are saying and doing about your husband. It sounds like he doesn't appreciate enough all the gifts you and the rest of the family get him and pay for the kindness and Christmas spirit in turn; I hope that he gets the message and changes his tune to give more to the rest of the family. I hope that your plan goes alright and that he approaches the matter with understanding and realization. 😊
The Christmas Holiday Season has been one of the most cherished times of the year. I'm a middle-aged mom of four grown daughters and six young grand babies. Christmas has not been the same since my husband of 34 years left me and filed for divorce two years ago. I should be glad that he is gone since he physically abused me a few times over the years and left me for one of his 17 years younger patients. I am not gonna lie, I have had a lot of healing to do and I am happy to almost be through to the other side of this mountain of grief.
Christmas now has a loneliness aspect since he's been gone and all of my children and grandchildren live far away. I am starting to get the twinkle back in my eye and smile back in my heart though, since I have started dating again and met a wonderful man that will join me for Christmas. I am looking forward to that and will have to take time to put up the Christmas tree tonight. I welcome making new memories as I press on my path of embracing this new brave world of being single once again.
Merry Christmas to you all and I hope that the reason for the season will always bring you comfort and joy. Maybe you can find 7 people to share a cup of hot cocoa and go for an evening walk to look at the lovely Christmas lights.

Hello, Bloom, I appreciate you sharing your personal story with us all, and Christmas can indeed be a lonely time when people you care for are far away. It sounds like you suffered a lot with your ex-husband, and he was not kind to you, so it makes sense that you are taking the time to heal, and I hope that these days you are doing better, which from what you are saying, it seems you are.
I'm happy for you that you got to meet a new wonderful man who is joining you for the holidays; you seem to like him a great deal, based on the twinkle in your eye that you're describing! You deserve to be happy, in love, and making enjoyable new memories with your family. I think I saw Santa, and he was headed your way. Get out the cookies and milk, and please go to bed early so Santa can do his job. Don't try to fake being asleep because he knows when you are sleeping, and he knows when you are awake. So, for goodness sake, watch out. He is bringing us to you on his sled, and we are going to watch you open all your gifts. We can have a sleepover we can play music and play games.

I'm glad that you have lots of presents ready to be opened--I'm not really into the gift-giving myself as much anymore. I get what you are saying that you're feeling a bit lonely. I think Christmas started as a good thing but then got totally commercialized. I didn't cut a tree down this year and there weren't as many places offering trees for sale here this year. In the past if I cut a tree down - I always planted another. Now I just plant trees when ever
I'm not big on the holidays. But I did put up a small tree and some lights here and there. I don't find any comfort in family and am mostly no contact with 99 % of them. I guess my self care is to do whatever that day. Usually I keep to myself but in the past I have had dinner with my closest neighbor. This year has been harder and I've been avoiding people more lately and just trying not to fall back onto old bad habits. I had other plans for Christmas this year but things happened and it just didn't work out

I agree with you that Christmas has become very commercialized over time, and we can see how shopping malls and online stores fill with merchandise and such and then also the trees we cut down. I no longer buy Christmas trees, and I think it's cool that you used to grow these trees for your own use and now you're just planting them.
I appreciate your trust in sharing this with all of us; it sounds like you're not close with your family, and I'm sure that you have very valid reasons for it. I'm glad to hear that you've been trying to put yourself out there more and had dinner with your neighbor.
It seems you've had a tough year, so I really feel for you; it's hard to be around people when we don't feel like we're in a good place, and I hope that you find a way to enjoy the holidays this year. The commercialism of Christmas is not a new thing. It's been like that for decades, probably for over a century. The only difference is the modern media - we're receiving all the blah, blah, blah, from a new set of sources.
When I was a boy in the 1960s, the only TV was broadcast TV. You had to have an antenna to get a signal. There were three major networks, and they all showed cartoons on Saturday mornings, from 8:00 to 12:00. There were commercials for toys galore. The commercials convinced many kids to put those toys on their Christmas wish lists. That's just one memory I have of those days.

It does sound like Christmas has been commercialized ever since we all can remember--I wonder when this first started to become a thing and how it's evolved over time. As you said, the modern media is just a new form of communication to share something that's not new.
Wow, your story about broadcast TV and all the ads in the 1960s is so interesting--I remember having to listen and watch those sorts of ads as part of history class. I hope that you take care and am wishing you happy holidays!
