Weekly Prompt - July 20th

Hello everyone. I am so glad you are here. From now on, I will post some prompts for the trauma support community weekly.

This week we will talk about the pace of healing. No one likes to be in distress or pain, we want it gone. Sometimes immediate relief is not going to happen. It is sort of like learning to ride a horse. We fall off and keep trying till we succeed.

Healing Trauma takes time, and so does learning to heal:

A famous Horse rider said: “Healing at a trot rather than a Gallop.”

Flashbacks, Triggers, and being uncomfortable in our own skin are definitely no fun. We tend to want to rush our healing process to avoid the feelings that are so uncomfortable. Did you know that rushing to achieve comfort does more harm than help? Why? Because the brain has to process things at its rate of processing.

As much as I wish we could gallop through, we must take on a trot, which is okay. Just keep it moving as you can.

Are you galloping through, or are you trotting?

Maybe you also want to join our regular discussions? You can find the schedule here.

@WorkingitThrough2 I think my horse is lost. Or maybe just confused lol

Seriously - I plod. No galloping or trotting. The faster I try to go the more I fall off. It's frustrating though - to not be able to move faster and heal
Kudos for the prompt! Very nice! 🙂 Thank you!

Soul, I love your response. That is so true😂. It often is so hard to stay in the saddle. I think that that is a big part of our healing journey. Some days we get on and can trot a little ways, and then suddenly, you have come to a halt before you realize it. I believe just like animals can sense our emotions, we can transfer that unstable feeling onto them, making them uncomfortable.

I have noticed my dog has become very insecure about going outside, but I think it is because of my own fears and insecurities. Healing and learning how to heal from trauma is definitely a journey.❤️

Hope you find your horse😂LOL

@WorkingitThrough2 I was thinking about this just a little while ago and I realized how fitting it all is. Trauma like horses has a mind of its own. We can be going along and something spooks our horse and we get thrown. Your absolutely right that animals can sense our emotions. Our fear or anger and happiness. If you're fearful your dog could be definitely be picking up on it. If you have foxes or hawks around though he might have another good reason to be afraid

Thank you for doing this thread ❤️ It was fun 😊

I don't think my horse was even moving. I had probably just been sitting there enjoying the scene and delayed my healing process altogether. I'm probably at the beginner riding level now, it's difficult trying to face my own traumas when no one really knows that I'm still being affected by all those childhood traumas and how 20+ years after it occurred that it's still a part of my life; and probably will need to live with it for the rest of my life. I only hope, that if I ever meet someone, friendship or romantic relationship, that the other person will understand and accept the entirety of me and stay by my side when I'm triggered or is getting flashbacks. Hopefully with their care and love, it will help with the healing.

Oh, well said. It is so very hard to feel that we are making any progress, but even the smallest attempt to move and make some type of effort is super great. I hope and truly believe that one day you will find that perfect friend or companion that will accept and love you, as they walk beside you in this healing.

I resonate with your feeling completely. I can honestly say nothing is impossible. Stay encouraged and keep it moving❤️

Thanks for being here and for your honest response. I am always here to support you or listen 😊

@WorkingitThrough2 - I don't trust myself when I think I'm moving at a galloping pace, haha. At best I am trotting.

But often I think my horse and I are just sitting down and staring at each other.

Thank you for the prompt!

I love it. I think I am at a snail's Pace. However, that is ok too😊

@WorkingitThrough2

If my recovery was carried by a steed, it would probably a goose rather than horse hahaha

@WorkingitThrough2

Are you galloping through, or are you trotting?

Definitely trotting, sometimes even plodding. It’s been a little over two years since I’ve broken free physically from the people who traumatized me, but they’re still in my head. I can see so much progress now in comparison to back then, but I still have some way to go in healing, especially since there are times where I fall back.

@TheAutumnWitch

I know how that feels to have these abusers in our heads—trying at the same time not to give way to the hurt behind what they did. Being honest about what we feel and learning new strategies to process these memories takes time, some more than others. That is totally ok, and our mind can only be receptive as it is able to process new information we learn.

Autumn: You are doing great; self-care, taking time to get a fresh breath, and good rest, can replenish our energy. At least these are some of the things I try to remember to do as well.

Thank you for being a part of this community and for your reply😊 have a great day.❤️
