Traumatic Experiences Community Check-In: Saturday-Sunday, 15-16 August 2020
Hey community!
As always, this is a supportive space, and its optional to participate in check-ins.
This weekend's topic is going to be about Mindfulness.
What is mindfulness? The dictionary defines mindfulness as an activite of focusing awareness on the present moment, while acknowledging and accepting feelings, thoughts, and sensations.
For some people this is an action that takes time. It does not come easy at first, it may do so as you get more used to it and practice mindfulness regularly. For others it comes very easily.
Some examples include but are not limited to:
When at work, when at school,
while doing self-care, when taking a shower,
exercising, cooking, listening to music,
drinking a cup of coffee, or waiting in line at the store.
Why is it important? Mindfulness helps you take a break and get out of your thoughts by having you pay attention to what is happening in the area around and inside of you. This loosens up negative or unwanted thoughts or emotions so we dont get stuck or burnt out.
Please remember you are not alone in this journey, we are here to support one another.
Just going to leave a few questions for everyone to answer.
Check-In Questions:
How are you feeling this weekend?
Are there ways you practice positive mindfulness?
Is there anything else you want to share?
Feel free to check in again over the weekend if anything changes or something comes to mind that you want to mention.
(Ill be replying when I can)

@AstronomySkies
Hiii!
1.This weekend I'm feeling pretty so-so. My panic attacks and flashbacks have been more frequent :/ and more intense. Other than that, I'm healthy, alive, roof over my head. Praise be God.
2. Whenever I'm in the shower, I use that time as like a de-stresser. I try to relax and ponder over things in a way that won't make me anxious.
3. I hope everyone is keeping safe through these hard times! ❤ God bless you all
@CoolBeans29. I think this might be obvious to someone else, but what exactly is a flash back? I always thought they were like the movies, long scenes during which you kinda check out of real life. But, tonight, at dinner, my partner said something that reminded me of an abusive ex (not the same tone or intent at all, tho). I momentarily thought about the ex and when he'd say those hurtful things,and my teenage daughter caught a look on my face. It must've been a "negative" look, because she wad instantly concerned. Is that a flashback? Or just a memory, or...?
Hi all!
I'm doing okey...I aso had a rough week and I'm just starting to go to kindergarden with my son again.
There are so many things to think about. and at one moment I felt really bad so I told the miss in the kindergarden about it (since we also are friends), I am so happy she could help me out and talk to me at that time! :)
stay blessed people, and have a nice weekend xxx
@AstronomySkies
How are you feeling this weekend?
I'm doing and feeling well. Bit bored, cause it's too hot to do most things
Date of the move is getting closer and I still don't have a date for a second sighting of the apartment. Making me a bit nervous
Are there ways you practice positive mindfulness?
While riding my bike or when I'm just sitting, I try and pay attention to my breath, trying to take deep calm breaths
Is there anything else you want to share?
I wish everyone to be good too, and if not that will change for the better, I'm sure 😊
How are you feeling this weekend? Very overwhelmed and stressed. . . I'm stunned a week ago, I was talking to a friend who was walking to work when he got violently attacked. It hit a lot of my ptsd triggers. It also hit realization that I almost lost my best friend.
Are there ways you practice positive mindfulness? I try to write and make a list of things I'm grateful for
Is there anything else you want to share? I'm fighting health and stress problems and I feel I need to be string for my friend.
How are you feeling this weekend?
I feel okay, I guess. I think kind of bored or just uncertain what to do with myself. It's something I don't know how to describe to people. It's almost like a discomfort because nothing is keeping me occupied and I can't think of anything to do. I also feel a bit sad. I haven't had an intense crush on someone since I was a teenager. I mean I have been attracted people, but never to the point of thinking about them all the time and imagining being with them. There is this person in my life who I have become very romantically attracted to and it makes me sad because I know I have no chance with that person for various reasons. 1. She is my boss and 2. I don't think she is attracted to women. All of this is fine, but I hate that I can't seem to stop thinking about her because it just feels like wasted thoughts.
Are there ways you practice positive mindfulness?
I have been practicing mindfulness more often lately. I have an app that I use. I also use it as part of my energy healing process. It helps with the feelings that I described above.
Is there anything else you want to share?
My cat is so cute when she sleeps. She snores really loudly :-)
@AstronomySkies
How are you feeling this weekend?
I'm feeling pretty okay. I'm getting through it
Are there ways you practice positive mindfulness?
I usually try to stay in the present when I notice I'm drifting but naming colors I can see around me or noticing my surroundings. It helps me feel positive and not dwell on the past.
Is there anything else you want to share?
I hope everyone is safe and doing good! <3 also I'm feeling good which is great
