Traumatic Experiences Community Check-In: Saturday-Sunday, 29-30 August 2020
Hello everyone!
As always, this is a supportive space, and its optional to participate in check-ins.
This weekends topic is about Emotions.
What are emotions? Emotions are mental reactions marked by strong feelings and they can also come along with physical effects.
Why are emotions important? Emotions are here to serve a necessary function. We may not always want them. They may make us upset or angry. But theres also emotions that make us happy. They drive us to a purpose, protect us, and make sure we are safe in any given situation we may be put in as a person in our daily lives.
For some people, emotions play a part in the recovery process. It can be hard and take time to do. For some it is a process of journaling. Or talking to a therapist. In a support group or to family. Something all these things have in common is opening up and talking about the emotion. Analyzing the emotion. Not everyone is the same, which means everyones road to recovery is not at all the same.
8 Basic Emotions and Their Purpose

Please remember you are not alone in this journey, we are here to support one another.
Just going to leave a couple general questions.

How are you feeling this weekend? So far, I am ok. Feeling a little anxious because of how busy work gets on Saturday.
What are your thoughts on emotions? they are important not to hold in
How are you feeling this weekend?
i feel, somewhat numb? as if i'm in the middle but not trapped anymore.
What are your thoughts on emotions?
they are as dangerous as the traumatic event themselves when we don't acknowledge them.
Anything else you want to talk about?
emotions plays a big part of my stuggle. every emotions in myself conflicted as if they fought with each other, they are shouting their dominance at each other making me all stressed up to the point where i wanted to vomit. it was overwhelming, especially when i forgot how to handle them, hence i saw them negatively. only after i realized that their reaction is not negative at all, it is their way to comunicating with me, all i need to do was to acknowledge them and accept them. my emotions was never scatered around, it was always the same, it was always in their place, they're only reacting the way they were because i wasn't really listening to them. i did not listen to them at all, but when i do, when i finally accept them and admited it and embracing it, it's as if they fall into their own places. now i promise myself to listen to them better, beucase they are my fisrt line of defense against all odds in the world.

Check-In Questions:
How are you feeling this weekend?
This weekend I am not feeling too bad. I just feel like I wish I accomplished more than I have, but feeling pretty relaxed & not stressing out about it too much.
What are your thoughts on emotions?
My thoughts on emotions is that they are good to have. I think life would be boring without them, all of them. I mean imagine if there was no such thing as an angry emotion & everyone was happy all the time. I mean it would be nice to have peace on earth but at the same time we wouldn't be properly reacting to everything that happens in life.
Anything else you want to talk about?
I am not sure. I have a tough time talking about my feelings. I just recently was diagnosed with not only ADHD, Depression & Anxiety but a slight form of PTSD which is retrospect makes sense. Now i am just trying to process it & work through it. Triggers are very hard for me to go through. How does everyone deal w/ their triggers that trigger whatever trauma they have gone through?
