Hello everyone!!

As always, this is a supportive space, and its optional to participate in check-ins.

This weekends topic is covering Negative Self-Talk. This can be really difficult or even triggering for some. I know it is for me.

What is Negative Self-Talk? It is basically any statements or thoughts we have about ourselves in a way that is not constructive. Its picking on ourselves, the things we dont like or wish could be better. Times we tell ourselves were not good enough, a disappointment, or that something is not possible.

What are some ways we can help? Most of our thoughts happen before we fully acknowledge it, however being aware of our minds can help us catch when we start to struggle with negative self-talk. Some people like to jot down some notes or write in a journal to say to yourself the next day to cheer you up if it happens again.

One recommendation that professionals give is naming your critic. Giving that tiny negative voice in your head a funny name or finding a silly face to imagine it having each time it comes up to bother us. It lets us have a moment to clear our head, and recognize the real issues weve been dealing with.

A few more common methods include:

talking it out,

thinking positively,

being your own best friend,

and a bunch of others.

This is definitely not a complete list. And everyone is different so it may not support you or do any help at all.

Please remember you are not alone in this journey, we are here to support one another.

Just going to leave a couple general questions.

Check-In Questions:

How are you doing?

Do you experience any Negative Self-Talk in your life?

Anything else youd like to share this weekend?

Feel free to check in again over the weekend if anything changes or something comes to mind that you want to mention.

(I have classes and work so I'll be replying when I can)

@AstronomySkies

◡̈⋆🅷🅸(●◡●)ノ! I'm doing well this morning, how are you doing?

I do experience negative self talk just about everyday. My anxiety makes it hard to believe that I might actually be doing well. I also sometimes might think negatively to myself.

This weekend I'll be planting a lot! I bought a bonsai tree kit & I've already started on some other plants prior to this. It's a lot of fun, it keeps me active, and it's doing some good. ❤

How are you doing?

Ok, I guess. Today actually went really well, but I've been stuck in a spiral and I'm not sure what to do

Do you experience any Negative Self-Talk in your life?

Yes, this is actually the only place where I don't feel like a terrible person. I would always tell myself that I'm a coward, that I'm weak, that I deserve pain, that I'm lazy and stupid. I don't really know how to stop it, because those are the things a lot people have been telling me since I was a kid. I can't tell if it's true, and sometimes I genuinely feel like a bad person.

Anything else youd like to share this weekend?

It feels trivial, because all people did was talk, but I can't shake the feeling that I may have been mentally and emotionally abused in some way. I don't really know how to talk about it, because it feels lame and like I'm wasting someone's time. It's not like anyone physically hurt me, and the people around me were just joking or angry or doing it out of spite. I don't think they meant any harm. I don't know what to do, and how to handle this. Please tell me I'm not being too sensitive or paranoid or overthinking things.

How are you doing?

Stressed, I must say. Just moved into a new placement after being in a hospital for two years, so the change is overwhelming. Also super depressed?? Super unmotivated smh

Do you experience any negative self talk?

Yes, everyday; my therapist always says I need to work on that everytime we meet :')

Anything else?

Uh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well, idk really haha, life is just.... life, am I right?

@AstronomySkies

Hi. I'm not sure where to start. I'm trying my best to hold it together. I haven't slept more than 3 hours a night in weeks. My Dr. is trying to find the right med. but it's hard with the other meds. I'm taking. I'm bipolar and the lack of sleep makes it worse. I'm going through some medical stuff right now that triggers me. It just feels like too much sometimes. Thanks for listening.

Doing so so. Negative self-talk came from negative self-talk from family members as well as PTSD survivor and other life stressors but I'm trying to get past that. I'm often anxious and scared and it is hard to feel positive. I think I've done negative self-talk most of life so it is a hard thing to change but trying deep breathing, reframing and positive self-talk yo try to counter the negative thoughts.
