Hello, I'm new here. My trauma is that I got abused by my older brother. However, he moved out from the house four years ago, so I'm not abused now but I'm still struggling with fear and my memory loss.

Today I'm feeling ok and having a good time with my dog.

@exuberantTriangle2562

Welcome to the traumatic experiences community - you're very welcome :)

That sounds like a pretty awful experience for you, and sadly those memories don't just disappear. Such things really can leave quite a lasting legacy. It's reassuring to hear you're safe now though, that's really important.

I have good news and bad news for you. I'll start with the bad news - you're not alone. Sadly abuse is something many people have encountered in their lives - it's shocking really to think how common it is, and very sad. But the good news is - you're not alone! Many people can empathise and relate very strongly with your experience. If you've had a thought or feeling, highly likely someone has thought or felt something similar. And they may be able to help you through it. I mean, it's not until you've been in that black hole that you have the opportunity to find your way out - and many have.

We have a daily community check in thread. So if you want to catch up with people who are around and about today, feel free to introduce yourself in there. If I was organised, I'd have a link for you.....but I'm not organised. I'll post you one in a message below.

@DeborahUK Thanks for replying. Before I came to this site, I have read and watched the blogs, youtube, and something like that to know about the people who had suffered, and I felt so sad because like you've said, that there are lots of people who's suffering because of the violent.

Thanks for the advice and the link!

@exuberantTriangle2562

you're definitely not alone in your experience and the affects on our lives is very challenging. Sharing and receiving support are great ways for self care during the rough spots. Do you have a support network and a therapist/counselor to help you develop some tools.? We're here of course. Glad you are here!
