@AveryLove Hi Avery! :)
One of my favorite coping mechanisms is distraction. As you all may know, I am super into DBT as I study it and also personally use it for my complex PTSD diagnosis. There is a super helpful pleasant activities list. I would love to run a DBT community of sorts for 7 Cups members. Let me know your thoughts.
My friend tagged me in a post and that made me smile that she thought of me, and I got to have a blizzard from Dairy Queen!
I am feeling a lot of boredom because of the recent events of COVID-19 that have left a lot of us at home.
I hope you have an awesome day, xoxo.
What is one of your favorite healthy coping mechanisms?
Snuggling with my (nearly) 2 year old.
What is one thing that made you smile this week?
My daugter's "happy dance".
What are you feeling a lot of lately?
A lot of anxiety and flashbacks from my childhood trauma. I'm in a living situation that brings everything back, all day, every day. It's truely exhausting. I see a therapist, but I joined this community to be a part of the group chats. So that I can continue to understand my condition (C-PTSD) and grow into a more functional woman and mother. Thanks for sharaing and reading!
What is one of your favorite healthy coping mechanisms?
Riding my bike around the property, bare foot while the dogs run beside me. :)
What is one thing that made you smile this week?
Seeing my partner's laugh lines on the edge of his eyes.
What are you feeling a lot of lately?
Uncertainty. The added uncertainty of the world right now is challenging to integrate in my already uncertain psyche.
New to this group. Hello, I'm Quin.
One of my favorite healthy coping mechanisms is retreating to a safe place. I almost always feel better when I can surround myself by things that make me happy. I highly recommend making yourself a nook of some sort, even if it's just a comfy chair in a corner with some books.
I made brownies with my boyfriend yesterday and we served them to our roomies and everyone loved them!
I'm feeling a lot of emotions all at once, lately. They clutter my head and I feel fuzzy-- I have a hard time focusing on things I want to accomplish.
@AveryLove
What is one of your favorite healthy coping mechanisms?
Going to an empty space and throwing something when I feel angry. For example, going out to the backyard and throwing rocks into the little lake by our house. It really helps me because I'm able to get my anger out but nobody gets hurt and nothing gets broken, such as dishes, electronics, picture frames, etc.
What is one thing that made you smile this week?
My little brother. Today was his last day at daycare before they closed for the quarantine and the kids were allowed to come dressed in costumes. I think it was like a Spirit Day thing. So I wake up this morning and he somehow found my basketball jersey and put it on (it was almost up to his ankles, but still super cute) so I ask him "Are you going to dress like a basketball player, Sawyer?" And he replies, "Nope! I'm a superhero." So I laughed and I'm like "Where have you seen a superhero wear that?" And his face is completely serious, and then he says "I'm trying to dress like you, Emirson. You're my superhero." That pretty much made my week right there.
What are you feeling a lot of lately?
Mostly frustration. I tried to think of something positive but I've been frustrated a lot lately. It's been four months since I've been cut from the school's varsity basketball team. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions, from denial, to anger, to losing all motivation, to guilt, and then I was doing a little better for a few weeks. My parents basically said "suck it up, it's your own fault" so I've been really trying to act like I wasn't affected. The last couple of weeks though, I can't fall asleep, I keep waking up during the night and having flashbacks from the day I found out, things like that. And I'm frustrated with myself for trying so hard to leave it behind and not being able to but also with everybody else because I'm running on like 3 hours of sleep which sometimes makes me moody and irritated for no reason.
