Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check in Friday 9th February 2018

Hello lovely "trauma family"

Its the end of another week. And it could be a break for those who are working. For those who aren't it can be just another day. Over the holidays it felt good initially to relax and not have to worry about regular routines. But after awhile found I was missing them What day is it?

Routies.. we love them, we hate them, we couldn't do wiithout them, they frustrate us.. what purpose do they serve in our lives? Think of children and how they do better with their regular routines... it makes life predictable and provides security and structure for them. Think we are no different.And for trauma survivors routine can help us to plod forward on auto pilot when our minds shut down.What we have done over and over, we can continue to do. Simple routines to start the day may be getting up and getting dressed.It can be that doing 5 minutes of activity like unloading the dishwasher is enough,and then later planning anorher 5 minute activity. And at the end of the day, which is often a challenging time, a simple wind down routine can gradually ensure a better sleep. Whats your view on routine?

Carol Shields in "The Republic of Love"says : "Routine is liberating. It makes you feel in control."

How is your day going? How do you find routines helpful? Or pop in to say hi! Love to hear from you.This is your space and a safe place.x

@rozie

I find them helpful as long as they're not too consuming. But overal helpful because distracts my mind of the darkest of thoughts.

About my day, well I don't feel so great. I've been having alot of flashbacks from my traumatic experiences... And I'm not sure anymore about my current relationship... I feel like I'm in a loop and because of that I turn cold and quite angry. I hate feeling angry but sometimes is too painful.

Sorry about the small negative venting here. But I guess I feel safe around the community to do so. 7cups is basically my home

Hi there Book good to see you in check in todaysmileyI like how you said "I find them helpful as long as they're not too consuming"

At times our routines can really become a chore more so then something to keep us productive. So Im glad you see this. I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling so well-due to dealing with flashbacks. Those can really mess up a routine hugzheart Not knowing about where you stand in a relationship can be worrisome and even interrupt some mental health stuff. Can I ask, did you talk together, asks some questions so that you feel better on this? I do hope things are fine between you both. Also those feelings are intense there. Is there some kind of routine you normally do when you feel like this? Maybe finding going into your routine can kinda distract you from all this. double hugzheart

@rozie My day went surprisingly well. Apart from the fact that I fought with my boyfriend, the day was good.

I don't like routines. They make me feel caged. But then at the same time, I love routines because I know that to do next and I'm not faced with uncertainty. So what I like is a flexible routine. I have to do something so I give myself plenty of time to do it. That way, I don't feel caged since I gave myself plenty of time to do it and at the same time, I don't feel that uncertainty of not knowing what's gonna happen next or what I'm doing next.

wake up cat GIF

Morning and hi to this wonderful community. I personally think routines are a good thing. As long as you don't get obsessed with it. Routines bring in "a flow" to the day, increases better mental health, predictable knowing whaat your doing in the day, self worth. So many things that are positive doing routines.heart

My routine was to sleep insadas I didn't have to work today and kids are off school. Then coffee, clean ferrets cage, dogs out, team things, and so on. And it is ok things didn't follow through-still gonna do my things todaysmiley

@BeeLeigh It's that time of year -- hibernation, both literal and figurative, is challenging for me to resist. Regaedless, am trying my best to reach out as much I can, even if finding the spoons to do so aside from cursory efforts isn't always feasible. Dealing with a lot of upheaval at the moment (along with the SADs), so just maintaining my balance amid the day to day churn saps so much mental energy. However, fret not -- I am indeed still present and accounted for, doing what I can to avoid completely withdrawing into my shell 🐢. ⛺❤️

@rozie I don't know how I feel about routines. Anyway, I'm pretty good, and looking forward to the rest of this weekend.

@rozie Ive definitely come to realize that I thrive on routine and structure. I sort of dont know what to do with myself if I dont have a routine in place ie, forget to get groceries etc. Ive learned that for me it helps to sit down on Sundays and look at what big tasks and planning I need to do for the week and then I actually schedule those things into my planner for a particular day and time. Otherwise, (as an example) something mundane like a friend inviting me over for a visit might throw me off and Ill completely forget that I absolutely had to get groceries that afternoon because I wouldnt have the opportunity again for another day due to other activities going on.

Im looking forward to the weekend - my daughter and I are finishing glazing some clay bowls we made last week and we have company coming for dinner one evening. Its also a long weekend for family day here and were still trying to decide how to spend the holiday! 😊

I've never posted in a check in before, but I'm trying to use more of 7 cups (than just talking to listeners)

My whole life is routine, and I hate it, mostly school Mon-Fri. So I'm glad the weekend is here.

Its interesting that u posted this topic as my therapist was talking with me about it yesterday. I find routine difficult because it can be disrupted easily or that's what has happened in the past also routine meant I was more vulnerable. I don't really have routine in my life because my work schedule is all over the place anyway but I try not to have routine on purpose.. Except maybe in the mornings I have my routine of shower coffee and get dressed..

Im feeling very flat but also apprehensive as I have work now and its a weekend frown

@rozie

I think I have a routine, but I can't remember right now. Panic attack. More financial BS with the school. Not sure if I wrote what I needed to properly on the form or request thing. Feel so inept, alone, incompetent. Keep floundering with this "adult" stuff and these random things that we're all SUPPOSED to know about. Don't think I'll get my studies done today, I feel so damn stupid and am crying my eyes out.

Okay.

Sorry for the freakout, peeps. I got it resolved by working through my panic and submitted what I needed to. I feel really embarrassed...things have been so triggery lately. Gonna take some selfcare time before I do my other stuff...*hides in bath*
