Happy Thursday Trauma Community!

I'd like to share a video today from Kati Morton called 'Why Does My Past Trauma Still Affect Me?'

In the video Kati asks: Why do we still struggle with the affects of trauma even when most of the guilt is gone?

Processing trauma is different for everyone and none of us are on the same timeline for processing or healing.

- What did you think of this video?

- Is there anything you would add?

- How is your week going so far?

Safe hugs if you want one today. heart

Thanks Kate for sharing these videos. they are very helpful. I identify with this video because i feel that way sometimes, like even though I know in my head it wasnt my fault I still blame myself and feel like I couldve stopped it which leads to a lot of guilt and shame. Hopefully those feelings will go away someday.

Good morning Kate, must needed topic for me! thanks for sharing! I just wanted to share cognitive dissonance theory in more textbook form because the presenter had very unique persective in alignment to trauma. It is said that human strive for internal pshychological consistency so that we can feel "reality". if what others tell us and what we remember is different, it makes us feel vulnerable. It's our survival mechanism to believe we are striving in reality. People who are "recovered" and "high functioning" still do have triggers and flash backs because small part of them still remembers the feeling that no one affirmed to be part of reality.

Instead of affirming someone " You had no control, it's not your fault" I often say " your feelings and thoughts are valid".

I think as society trying to make everything better with least amount of work, I want to remind everyone to use less bandaids. Nothing that quick heals trauma and sometimes what trauma survivors need is for someone to accept just exactly what they feel as part of reality.

thank you

@Kate The video was very good. This week I had to fire my caretakers because I couldn't afford to pay them. My driver failed to show up to take me to an important medical appointment, and I broke the stove. Other than that, I had a good week.
