Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Thursday March 14th
Happy Thursday Trauma Community!
I hope you all are having an amazing week and I'm proud of you for making it all the way to Thursday.
If you all are avid social media users, you may be familiar with #ThrowbackThursday. I thought we could do our own version today.
- Let's throw it back and remember a time where we remember feeling happy.
- One time I felt happy was...
- What were you doing?
- How long ago was it?
- What senses do you remember feeling at that time? Do you remember a specific scent, taste, feeling, sound?
- What is one small thing you can do today to get closer to feeling that happiness again?
Share a little, share a lot, just say hi.

I have this experience that I often "go back to" in my mind when I need to breathe. I was in elementary school and was at summer camp, we were on a 3-day backpacking excursion so out in the middle of nowhere. We were in this aspen and wildflower meadow. I remember lying in the meadow looking up at the sky through the aspen leaves that were shimmering in the light wind. It was so peaceful and perfect. I mentally go back there any time I need to, I love it. It is my happy place.
Hi there.
Ive actually had some happy times lately, which has been nice. Feeling a little down tonight. Have been trying to follow my therapists advice & focus on the present, give myself positive affirmations, etc, but its not working as well as it sometimes does. Trying to remind myself that Im safe in the present and my past trauma doesnt define me. Keep trying I guess. Hope will kick in & start working more soon.

Mine goes back quite a few. When I use to live in Korea I walked past a big pear orchard on my way to school. I walked through this path everyday for 5 years. Every season around September many orchard workers hustled and bustled their way into the deep orhard to trim the tress for preparation for a harvest. The sun shoved their ways inbetween all the leaves and blinded me every few seconds. September Korea was quite chill and the sun coming through the leaves felt like warm sprinkles of warmth. I remember holding my sister's little hands walking through the orchard. We never really talked and stayed quite the entire way through. Everytime I feel I need to humble myself and to appreciate life I think back to the simple days. Days when I only knew one way to school.
- Let's throw it back and remember a time where we remember feeling happy.
- One time I felt happy was... (Are we talking more than one day.) I have had moments of contentment. . . if we are talking happiness that would be when we still had our grandma's house and I would write at night and walk and go to the library or Mc Donalds.
- What were you doing? Writing, and being with family and cats
- How long ago was it? Over 6 years
- What senses do you remember feeling at that time? Cats were soft, the house was always warm, and it depends on the smell on whatever we were cooking
- What is one small thing you can do today to get closer to feeling that happiness again? I have no idea since lost the house (it's taken down), I can't have a cat, and writing about makes me want to cry
