Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Tuesday 19th December 2017
Good morning to you all!
Really good to be back here with you in our wonderful and supportive community..... missed you heaps.. and looking forward to catching up again.
While away on my travels, with long flights and big busy airports,lots of people, noise and stress, it was all a bit too much for a simple country girl. The cumulative effect was in becoming more and more "wired" but I didn't really become aware of this until I couldn't sleep, meditation wasn't working and anxiety was increasing.By now very much in the reactive mode of my brain. What Rick Hanson would describe as a state of homelessness.. I needed to come home.
In contrast is the responsive mode of the brain which is the resting state we return to when not rattled. This is home where we feel safe, satisfied and connected.Where our heart beats more slowly, blood pressure is reduced,and nutrients from food more easily digested. He says that our deepest nature is peace, love and wisdom. That our body and mind want to come home. That the responsive mode of our brain can be activated, encouraged and reinforced through mindfulness, meditation and being in the present moment. Spending time at home helps us to spend more time there..
In this holiday season of the year,when the stresses often increase, I want to share some words from Rick Hanson with you ...."Each time you rest in your brain's responsive mode it gets easier to come home again. That's because neurons that fire together wire together. Stimulating the neural substrates of calm, contentment and caring strengthens them . This also makes it harder to be driven from home: its like lengthening the keel of your mental sailboat, that no matter how hard the winds of life blow, you stay upright, not capsized, and keep on heading towards the lighthouse of your dreams."
How is your day going? How is this relevant for you? Wondering how preparation for a daunting experience may help. Or pop in to say hi! This is your space and a safe place. Love to hear from you. x

This gave me some thought material, thanks a lot Rozie and welcome back!
Home for me is a place for feeling safe and at peace, being and feeling free to be who I want and need to be at any given moment.Home is place where love never ends, not sure who said that but those words are burned in my mind forever.
I'm feeling quite all over the place.Like all my existance is just shattered in pieces and scattered all across the floor.Now, one by one, I pick up those pieces and trying to understand how to put them together to create the person I want to be.I fear not knowing, uncertainty and that's why being in this phase is so challenging for me.Being unsafe, unclear about future especially might scare me and shake my world quite heaviy.That's why I just pause.I pause and give myself time.I don't overwhelm myself and focus all of my energy on this one task.The most important task.I think I'm very close to finishing putting this all together, figuring out what to do now after I let go of that version I created in order to survive.It's kind of...For the first time in years I can live.I can be myself again.It's safe to be me once again.And I'm very happy that I came this far.That I'm doing all of this.It's just beyond.All of this.:)
@Morfo66
I'm so proud of you, for coming this far and doing all of this. x
@rozie
Thanks a lot!(:
My moms aunt died on Sunday, and her funeral is Friday. She lived a few states away, so Im not going, but Im trying to send books along for my Grampa and his siblings. I gave one of each to my mom and step dad right after I found out she passed and they were so grateful, and my mom said if I had any more it would be a good idea and they would bring them with to the funeral. So, right now Im working on taking care of that, and I honestly still dont even know who all I have gifts for or dont have gifts for so Im trying to work on that, and also today is therapy day so yay me! 🙃
Oh! This is what Im wearing today though! 😊

@BeeLeigh
First, that dress is adorable
Second, it's really great that you're reaching out to your family during this hard time. My condolences to you and your family.
@Rozie.
its been really bad, like I can't count the number of panic attacks in the past few days. I've lost many good listeners because they can't cope with me and my feelings, I have found one lovely listener today. But I'm terrified she will just leave me like everyone else. I have reached breaking point a long time ago and how I'm surviving day to day is miraculous. Sorry to anyone who's wasted their time to read this
@fairmindedTangerine8216
I'm glad you're here with us. And sorry to hear the panic attacks have been so numerous lately... its rough at times like this... and we need support. Good for you in being resourceful in seeking this support and hopefully you've found a listener who can be alongside you. Often it takes time to find a good fit with a listener, some are able to give you what you need, others may not, and that's just how it is. We are here for you too and there are listeners in the Trauma community who could support you... just PM us. Be encouraged,its only one step at a time,one day at a time,which as you say in itself is miraculous.Hug. x
@rozie
i'vet had many wonderful listeners. Still do. I just find different listeners can help in different ways and it's amazing :) It's just circumstance and trying to say how I feel is too difficult. I have made many many great steps in the past few years because of 7 cups. Still a long way to go obviously but not as long as when I started
Hello Rozie
Glad you're back
@scarletPear194
Yes, it's nice to see you @Rozie.
Rozie
That was a good synopsis of what it feels like to be at home and at peace in your own body or head. A place I am striving to obtain. The place called home is supposed to be that safe haven mentally and physically. Mindfulness is a road I can take lots of practice.
I struggle to come home. I will work toward this as my goal
Thank you for the insight.
@scarletPear1945
Thank you...I think you have summarized this so well. That place called home.. that safe haven.. where there is calm and peace in body mind and soul. And mindfulness is the way there, so as we continue with this, we are more likely to be at home and less likely to be "driven from home." It takes time and patience, so be encouraged, you're on the way..x
@rozie
Rozie Thank you
@rozie
Hey Rozie and everyone.
What an interesting thing about coming home to yourself. To that calm and peace.
One of my daily affirmations is in the present tense: "I have found Home."
Little by little I think I'm on my way home. Sometimes I find Home for a little while, but then get lost again. It can be hard when you live in a chaotic environment and someone tries to construct mazes around you. Or if those old ghosts come up and you're trying to navigate in some version of the Winchester mansion.
The holidays haven't been that pleasant for me this year. Mainly, I'm learning how not to react to things and state my boundaries. I still try my best to enjoy them. Oh! And I've started exercising again and am on the path to eating healthier again. I've strayed from meditating due to my anxiety for a while, but I intend to get that going again as well. So far my cats are liking this holiday. They've always liked Christmas. The tree is a big playground for them to hide under with all kinds of wrapped objects, and shiny objects, not to mention superior water. XD
I am really struggling today.
