Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in for Wednesday, 21st of November, 2018
Hi all!! For those familiar faces out there, HIIII I'm so happy to see you again I missed you all so much!!! And for those new faces, I am looking forward to getting to know you all!!
I figure that as my first post back I should post a little introduction of myself so it doesn't feel like a stranger wading in here (though I've kind of already done that, and if threw anyone off I'm sorry for the confusion.)
I go by Hox and use she/her pronouns. I am a surivor of child sexual abuse, so that tends to be my specialty in 7cupsing but I do also take chats about other kinds of trauma and emotional disruption. I am currently in school with the goal of becoming a therapist for this population. Working in communities like these is genuinely what I want to do for the rest of my life, so I take every post very seriously. I was a forum supporter and discussion leader for about a year before taking the last 4-5 months off to focus on school. Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew on 7cups and school gives me a special level of anxiety that I historically don't handle well. However, this time I am on top of things because I've been very cautious and careful, and because I made sure I had a strong support network for if anything happened.
You never have to worry about triggering or burdening me. If I am here, I am here to work. I know how to go on a self care break if I need it, so never hold something back because you don't want to be a bother. I am here for you all.
For the check in today, I'd love to get to know you! I know that ice breakers make people uncomfortable, so only share as much or as little as you want, but mostly, tell me something you're passionate about! I'd love to hear about your interests and what you enjoy. Whether it's an activity, a person, a thing. Let's spread some joy and appreciation today!
I'll start us off, I absolutely LOVE videogames! I could genuinely talk for hours and hours about the tiniest thing in the games I play haha. I am PC only and prefer MOBAs but have been dabbling recently into some single player games. Mostly planning and sim type games because I love resource management.
OH a fun fact about me is that "Hoxenos" is a phonetic representation from the ancient greek words "The stranger." I picked this name because I thought we were all strangers on the internet and I'm a huge nerd.
I'm looking forward to meeting/reaquainting with you all today! Have a great day
Let us know if you want your name added or removed from the tag list.

Hello,
Not sure what to say but I love a flight simulator game, it is on my bestest friends brother's computer so I am to annoy him until he lets me play. I am getting better at it. Other than that, hello.
Ame
@AmalieAnne
Haha perhaps there's a way to get it for yourself, unless you don't have a computer, then IGNORE ME haha but if you do have one, perhaps it's on Steam (just google steam games). It's an online market program that hosts like... 90% of games in existence. Perhaps it would take out the middle man for you.
Also you don't have to talk about games. If you're interested in other things like art, a sport, or I dunno, debating people. I'd love to hear about whatever you want to talk about about yourself ^^
It's really nice to meet you!
@Hoxenos Hello, I looked up what steam was but I am not sure still what it is about. My bestest friend brother has a really fast computer and all the controls so it is fun
I found Uno online though so sometimes I play that but it is kind of better with real people. What kind of games do you like? You said something but I cannot get to it when I am typing MOBO? or something. I am not sure what that means. More of an non-computer person to be honest.
I love art, natural history, history in general but normally debating people is pointless because it does not change people's mind. So real world things I HATE sports, all of kind but I love books and my violin, history is the thing I read about most but all sorts of books. I am 'disabled' so that is my excuse for not playing any sport. I like swimming though we go on Saturday mornings, so kind of getting better at that. Also love art, I am lucky that I have been to many places (mostly in Europe) so art and history is combined there along with castle and forts - that kind of stuff. I do some art myself but still kind of getting better at it, it is more projects for me than anything else but it kind of helps when I am feeling sad, blaah or lost. Love music completely, classical and musicals mostly.
Any who, it is nice to meet you as well
@AmalieAnne
Yeah Steam is an odd thing to explain to a non gaming person. You download the program, make an account, and then you buy games on there and they are on your account forever. This took away the need to buy physical games and potentially haveing them break. This way your games are with you everywhere and anywhere forever. So a new computer, a new windows, just download steam and boom, there are your games :)
As I said it's just an option if you'd like to have your games on your computer, you don't need to download it or anything, but it is free to download, so you could always try it out ^^
You know, old architecture IS art, especially when you think about how precide they had to be. I loved Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" which is a novel about a cathedral being built over like a hundred years in the 1100s or so. It is a great book, but I'm biased as I just love historical fiction. Bringing life to the past makes me really appreciate what I have in the present I think.
And violin oooo that is one of the most lovely instruments. I play piano myself :)
@Hoxenos I found the website but it is red traffic light so need parental permission for it, I will ask about it. I am kind of like the older ways I have a Kindle but I like real books to much. You are right though architecture is art in its own way, I was born in Barcelona, the cathedral was finished in the 14th century and we used to live in the gothic quater so... it is a lot different than Canada plus it is really cold. The cathedral is amazing but also Sagrada Familia if you ever go to Barelona you need to go there. It is new and still being built but is so beautiful. How long have you played the piano? Any who, it is lunch time and then therapy (maybe a little sleep as well)
@AmalieAnne
I've played piano since I was young, although when I moved away from home I no longer had access to my piano. When I settle down I will get a one second hand. How long have you been playing violin?
@Hoxenos I hope that you can get a piano soon, I would kind of miss it if I could not play. I started playing when I was about 4, started with laying on the floor with a pillow
I see sounds and could not talk that well so it helped me and was amazing I could create colours. Playing ever since but still have a 3/4 until I get a bit bigger and stronger.
Hey Hox :) lovely to see you back!
I love video games too!!! However I am most passionate about books and programming :). I love to get lost in a book and read on average 300 pages a day, all fiction romance stories ahaha I am very specific in what I like and get good use out of my kindle unlimited account ahaha. Programming is my job as well as my hobby and I specialise in making websites :)
Games wise I love first person fantasy games as well as stratergy games :D current playing the Witcher 3 :) I am terrible at shooters and play PC only too :D
*Waves hi*
@Lilibuth12
Lilibuth it's so nice to see you again!! Ooo programming is so neat. I've always believed that it's a great combination of logic and artistry, I feel like it has the capability to appeal to so many people. What is your favourite kind of programming? Do you have anything you want to show off? I tried a bit and have a decent grasp on html and css and am currently learning JS as a hobby. I made a colour game where you like... click on the guess from 6 colours based on a RGB code given and if you get the wrong one it disappears, and the right one makes all the colours turn that colour. I can make a "new game" with new colours and "easy mode" with only 3 colours. It was lots of fun and I definitely liked the puzzle aspects of JS and struggle the most with the aesthetics of CSS. It was simple but I learned a lot :)
I love reading too! I'm a huge fantasy geek but will dabble into YA fiction when I just want to relax. The more "real" the characters, the better for me generally. I used to read an entire novel per day back in high school so it's still a huge thing for me. What are you currently reading, do you have any recommendations? I'd love to hear about them and I am a IDC about spoilers kind of person, so let loose!
I've heard Witcher 3 has an amaaaaazing story, really well written game. I am also horrible at shooters. I'll dabble in Overwatch every few months but aside from that... No.
@Hoxenos Lovely to have you back here in Trauma Community Land.
I'm also a fan of video games for self-caring. These days I'm pretty exclusively into Fallout and Skyrim.
@Kate
The staying power for Skyrim is pretty amazing when you think about it. Like the fact that people are still playing and modding it. I guess it has a lot of replay value. I tried to play Oblivion years ago but after I left the starter area a wolf immediately attacked me and the sounds it made as I killed it made me nope out, close the game and never try an elder scroles game again haha. Fallout always seemed interesting to my psychologically, but since I wasn't a fan of masseffect I assumed I wouldn't like Fallout either xD
Thanks for the welcome :)
Hi Hox. I am completely new here so I'm not even sure I am doign this correctly. I go by AshleyAnn. I just joined this website yesterday and am still figuring things out. I guess I am just looking for a place to start.
@lostindecember Welcome AshleyAnn! Let us know if you have any questions about how to navigate the community or how to get involved.
@Kate I actually have a lot of questions, thank you. I guess I am just trying to figure out how all this works and find a good place to start.
@lostindecember You can always PM me as well! Happy to help with any and all questions.
@Kate Thank you. I will do that.
@lostindecember Hello AshleyAnn I have been on here for a while and I get confused
still people are nice here and wanted to say hello.
Good afternoon. Super duper new to this idea of online support. I am in traditional talk therapy, have started attending group therapy and thought this would be a nice addition to my "tools". I am also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, along with other forms of abuse. Just really starting to see my childhood in the light of truth. YIKES!! My motivation is always my children. I look at them and see so much hope and innocence. Something fun about myself...hmmm... I have always had "old lady" hobbies! HaHa! Birds, flowers, knitting and canning! As each year passes, they stop being "old lady" hobbies and just, well...hobbies! HAHA!!! It makes me sad that there is a community for this, but oh so grateful for it!
@courageunderfire1975 Welcome! Old lady hobbies or not; they still sound relaxing and wonderful!
@Kate It's where I find my zen!
@courageunderfire1975 I was talking to a lady I met in an airport a few weeks ago. She was knitting and I talked about the projects Iw as working on. She was impressed that I didn't crochet, because that seems to be all the rage with the young crown nowadays. Which I think makes sense, since you can buy a lot of stuff that you would have knitted before, and crochet leaves a lot more open to creativity and personalization. That being said, Im sticking to knitting xD
I know I've heard of canning but I can't remember what it entails. Would you tell me about it, and what you enjoy about it? I'd love to hear :)
I'm so excited to meet you, Hox. I'm super new to the trauma community, so I'm inda shaky on everything, but I'm keen to get better. You seem like a very kind, empathetic person and I admire your "you're not a bother, I'm a big girl" comments-- those always put me at ease. I'm an art major, and I love to learn, socialize, and be outside. :) Thanks for your check in today.
@betterchoices
Nice to meet you! I'm glad my assurances put you at ease. Sometimes listeners can forget about these kinds of assurances, and so anything I can do or anything I forget about, feel free to remind me! I'm always looking to improve. I've always admired people who like artsy things. I am a suuuuper unartsy person so I just think it's super neat and I really appreciate people who are. Loving to learn!!! ME toooooo!! Gosh there's just no feeling like getting into something new and exploring it. I love duolingo for that, learning new languages and whatnot. I've also dabbled in learning web development. It's a new frontier for me and so interesting!!
Feel free to ask any questions about the community or about the site in general. I'm here to answer. Off the top of my head, there are these forums such as the check in and specific topics, which can be reached from the community page. There are also discussions that run a couple times a week and the chat room opens right before they are live. I'm not sure of the times, so when I find that out I will let you know :)
@Hoxenos you are just so kind and attentive, thank you so much. I appreciate you wholly! Thanks for making me feel so welcome and supported! We should learn something new sometime.
@betterchoices
Well I really need to learn Spanish this year, but I struggle to keep my motivation up and do it every day. Perhaps we could do something like that and encourage each other to keep going or something ^^
Thanks for the kind words, they mean more than you know <3
@Hoxenos I think that's a wonderful idea! Getting back my motivation is one of my main mental health goals! It helps when you have a buddy to do your tasks with for sure!
@Hoxenos
I am facinated by physics, metaphysics, history and anything data related. I enjoy playing video games, but I have to be careful because I can easily become obsessed with a game. I set time limits now and don't play too often.
I'm not doing so well today. There are so many reasons.
@practicalIdeal2007
Ooo physics, nice one! It's so neat understanding the relationships in the natural world and figuring out why thigns do what they do. It feels so concrete and ultimately true. There's very little grey to deal with there. Yeah I have to monitor how long I game for as well. Sometimes I set aside a whole day and just... let myself have fun with no consequence, otherwise I need a cut off time (which I inevitably overshoot by an hour at least so I have to plan for that haha
Tell your reasons if you want to, don't tell if you don't want to, we're here for you either way <3
Whether or not you want to talk about it, I hope your day gets better!
@Hoxenos
Part of what I like about physics is it is black and white. I think very black and white and it makes sense to me. Not to mention there is an infinite number of aspects to study. Metaphysics isn't as black and white. I enjoy researching metaphysics anyway because it stretches my thinking in new ways. So, I just outed myself as a nerd.
I have little to no ability to socialize or communicate on normal topics, but bring on the science and it's a different world. I can talk all about deriving light values for color spectrum analysis using a light box vs. higher tech options that take 15x's as long. Ask me about my day, how I feel, how to deal with life and I'm going to stare at you and stammer. Then I will probably reach for my teddy bear and weighted blanket. My boss likes to say I'm brilliantly stupid. Can't hold a "conversation" for anything, but I can run an entire logistics department. I'm an enigma.
@practicalIdeal2007
I was a similar way. I really had to learn how to describe my emotions. As soon as I realized that everything in this world is a pattern it really helped. Like math came easy to be because the patterns are easy. But I was terrible at English, until I realized language, writing, it's all patterns. Then learning about psychology and how people act certain ways in response to predictable things. Everything is patterns. When I put my behaviour and emotions into that lens it's a lot more palatable.
I'd love to hear any of your scientific rants. Whatever you're passionate about or working on right now. You deserve to be heard <3
Hi how are you?
I've been through a lot too.
Last crazed thing that I have gout. . . I'm worried about my pain and diet.
I'm grateful for patient family and neighbor who have supported me.
@Rebekahwriter13 Hope tomorrow is a better day for you and that the pain eases up soon. Thanks for checking in.
@Kate thank you. It sore today due helping with cleaning and dinner, but it's getting better slowly.
@Rebekahwriter13
Hey Rebekah!! Long time, I'm glad to see you!! How exactly does gout affect your diet? Is it a lower fats and sugars thing? I'd love to hear what your plan is for it :)
I'm glad that you have family you can rely on, that can be a struggle sometimes. We'll be here with you as well <3
@Hoxenos
I'm supposed to avoid proteins that have insides and nuts. However food with high vitamin c and root veggies are good.
However what I'm planning on getting a notebook and write a food journal vs how I feel.
@Hoxenos
Hey all, there seems to be a glitch or bug going on and it's deleting posts from new members. If you're affected by this, please msg me or Kate. We are working towards fixing the issue asap and so sorry for the onconvenience <3
@Hoxenos
This one has been affecting me too. I sent a message to IT about it, but glad to know it's not just me. Thought i was doing something wrong.
