Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in for Wednesday, 21st of November, 2018

Hi all!! For those familiar faces out there, HIIII I'm so happy to see you again I missed you all so much!!! And for those new faces, I am looking forward to getting to know you all!!

I figure that as my first post back I should post a little introduction of myself so it doesn't feel like a stranger wading in here (though I've kind of already done that, and if threw anyone off I'm sorry for the confusion.)

I go by Hox and use she/her pronouns. I am a surivor of child sexual abuse, so that tends to be my specialty in 7cupsing but I do also take chats about other kinds of trauma and emotional disruption. I am currently in school with the goal of becoming a therapist for this population. Working in communities like these is genuinely what I want to do for the rest of my life, so I take every post very seriously. I was a forum supporter and discussion leader for about a year before taking the last 4-5 months off to focus on school. Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew on 7cups and school gives me a special level of anxiety that I historically don't handle well. However, this time I am on top of things because I've been very cautious and careful, and because I made sure I had a strong support network for if anything happened.

You never have to worry about triggering or burdening me. If I am here, I am here to work. I know how to go on a self care break if I need it, so never hold something back because you don't want to be a bother. I am here for you all.

For the check in today, I'd love to get to know you! I know that ice breakers make people uncomfortable, so only share as much or as little as you want, but mostly, tell me something you're passionate about! I'd love to hear about your interests and what you enjoy. Whether it's an activity, a person, a thing. Let's spread some joy and appreciation today!

I'll start us off, I absolutely LOVE videogames! I could genuinely talk for hours and hours about the tiniest thing in the games I play haha. I am PC only and prefer MOBAs but have been dabbling recently into some single player games. Mostly planning and sim type games because I love resource management.

OH a fun fact about me is that "Hoxenos" is a phonetic representation from the ancient greek words "The stranger." I picked this name because I thought we were all strangers on the internet and I'm a huge nerd.

I'm looking forward to meeting/reaquainting with you all today! Have a great day heart

Let us know if you want your name added or removed from the tag list.

Hi. Nice to meet you. Im new here. Thanks for your honesty & your willingness to reach out to those of us who need a hand. Look forward to getting to know you.

I had a good day but a lousy evening. Cried my eyes out for a good hour. At least my mom was there to help me.

@pioneeringBanana1598

Hi Banana! It's nice to meet you as well. The reason I want to help is because I was incredibly isolated by my experiences. I felt so incredibly alone with my secrets. No one should have to feel the pain that I did, so I need to make my pain worth something, and use it to channel my empathy into helping others feel less alone.

I'm glad that your mom was there to help you. Did anything set it off in particular? At least you had a good day though!! I know it feels more important to focus on the negative, but a good day is nothing to understate! Woo! Remember you can share as much or as little as you need right now <3

@CaringBrit

I played a Runescape-like game for a loooooooooong time. There was an advanced guild and warfare system, but aside form that it had the same grindy collecting thing going on. It was fun ^^

@Hoxenos what was it called

@CaringBrit

It's called Albion Online. It's like a hardcore pvp Runescape. Nowhere is safe!! I'm kidding, there are some safe places, but it's a full loot system so people who just grind collecting resources can get sort of owned and robbed repeatedly if they don't have excape plans or protection from guild mates.

@CaringBrit Yeah I eventually quit because sometimes I just wanted to relax and you just always had to be hyper alert, it was rough after a year or two

@Hoxenos

Thanks so much for the introduction. It's nice to know more about you.

I love video games too, but I'm not really knowledgeable of too many modern games. I like replaying things on old systems like old Zelda games. I like some PC games too like Baldurs Gate. Any RPG really.

I really enjoy drawing and playing piano. I enjoy cooking from scratch, and I've made wine and beer.

Many of these things i don't have as much time for as i'd like after having kids, but I'm starting to do a better job lately recognizing that i need to keep doing my passions too, and the kids seem to enjoy watching them anyways. My partner has been really helping me do this lately. My biggest passion right now is working on myself and helping them. It used to seem daunting, but now I'm excited about learning new things to break the old patterns and try to raise a healthier generation.

@SentientiaPoecile

I think it's important for kids to see that their parents have stuff they enjoy as well. Teaching passion and true enjoyment is really important I think. I think it teaches us our values and what we will find important in life :)

When I was younger my mother and sister would beat me and my dad usually enabled them. My sister went to juvie for a month for beating me really bad. Each person in my household was emotionally abusive. My sister would constantly remind me that my parents didn't want me and I should be dead. I don't talk to my sister anymore and rarely my mother. I still live with my dad. My parents got a divorce when I was in the 5th grade. Everyone thought I was so sad my mother wasn't in my life anymore, but I was happy. Even happier when I got a protective order. I got really stressed out, was malnourished and my hair started falling out in 7th grade, then started to grow back in 9th. I showed my dad the bald spots on my head ( about 25% hair loss) and he said, " going to the doctor isn't going to make it grow back faster." This and other things get me down and I don't know what to do to get over it.
