AMA - Dissociative Identity Disorder
Really nice of yall to offer. ❤ Welcome to the community, @theturtlesystem.
👋 I’m part of an OSDD 1b system that is just starting to openly acknowledge it, but..,
…I have experienced many seriously stressful life events jam packed one after the other over the past 2 months and now everything is “out of whack”.
Am I crazy? Can a system just change the way it functions inside? Or is this a “red flag” that proves that I’m not really a system after all?
Any insight is appreciated.
@lemonSys Of course. Roles can change. Some can hold different roles. It all depends on what's needed. :)
@mytwistedsoul
Thanks - good to know. I guess I should have figured that to be the case, but I just didn’t know. It really does feel crazy right now so I appreciate the reassurance.
@lemonSys You're welcome :) I'm glad it gave you some reassurance. When things get stressful things can get crazy real fast. Some can be afraid and go into hiding. Emotions are all over the place. Influence can be a problem. Is there anything that helps calm things down? Do you have communication with anyone - that maybe you can ask what's going on? Or to ask who needs what?
@mytwistedsoul Hot chocolate helps to calm things down. And the little ones have their stuffies. Still working on expanding this list. Any suggestions? Communication…I do have some, but not with everyone, and usually only on their terms. Right now though it’s been really hard. It’s like I’m not trusted or safe for most anymore. I don’t know what to do, to be honest.
@lemonSys Coloring is awesome. Even for the older ones. It's relaxing. Or maybe some would like to draw. We're big fans of Legos here too. And video games. Sometimes a quiet space is nice. It can be filled with stuffies and is nice to watch movies or color in. Pillow or blanket forts are nice for this. Plus it gives the littles a feeling of security and a space of their own
Journaling can help. Sometimes someone might need to get something out and off their mind. We have an agreement here that if a page is folded in half its private. Noone else is to read it. It's important to honor that and respect their privacy and builds trust
Trust is hard to build. Even among outsiders trust needs to be built in any relationship. And getting to know one another. So it makes sense that they don't trust you if you're still getting to know each other
I know you had said you had serious stressful events. With things being out of wack right now chances are someone is triggered. I've found that reminding everyone that it's safe now can help. Feel free to say it out loud if you're comfortable with it. If there was alot of stress someone might be feeling unsafe
Unless they come right out and say what the problem is its kind of alot of guess work tbh
Hey - so.., I don’t know if it’s me, my app, or what not, but this post is just empty black space for me.
Anyone else have this issue?
If intentionality blank, kindly disregard this message of mine :)
Ah ok so it was my app. Just checked on the website and voila! There was text :)
Such good info in here - I greatly appreciate it. Particularly like the blanket fort idea. Years ago I used to write. Depression kicked in and I stopped. Never got back into it. Maybe that is a good place to start - especially if others will join in. I’ll give it a go.
Again, thank you!
@lemonSys You're welcome :) I hope things get better for you. There's alot of good people here - reach out when or if you need to ok? Me and mine say hello to you and yours :)
Good luck with your journaling I hope it helps build some better communication and gets things to a better spot for you all
Roles can definitely change, I used to have a part that didn't have any roles, then became a caretaker and then became a co host and is now a caretaker again, roles can change according to what is needed for the system/person with DID/OSDD. Everyone is different and I don't think it's a red flag to have a different structure.
Thanks for the reply - I appreciate your message. It’s good to know I’m not crazy. Or at least not “too crazy” lol.
.
DID system here. I try not to refer to parts of mind as alters or for that matter parts of mind but more so an emotional space....I've integrated a few teenagers as I called them years ago...but still have a lot of young emotional spaces today. Communication with young emotional spaces is hard. I don't think I can really do it unless I'm in the presence of my therapist. I realized that might be the issue. Sometimes doing something like coloring or drawing brings those emotional spaces up. More so I deal with these spaces wanting a external mother as I no longer talk to my own mom as of a year ago June. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be open to learning more ways to connect.
Thanks
