DID and its impact on strangers
As a person who's been diagnosed with it for over 5 years, I often come across people unable to understand it, or even believe it. My first experience with it was when I joined a supposedly metal health app. Someone who didn't know me personally, assumed I was. lying and told people not to believe me, which made me finally quit said app. I think it is very common for people not to understand what it is, and try to downgrade it. Situations like this often make me dissociate even more, so it is safe to say that I avoided forums for a while. I found this community, so I hope to meet a lot of people who can share experiences, and we can help each other as well.
Hello @veux, nice to meet you! 💛
Most people when they don't understand something, find it untrue and easy to avoid for them, which speaks more for a lack of awareness and will to educate themselves more about things that likely are beyond their world of understanding, but still matter and are valid the same, for others around.
I'm sorry you had to experience being accused of lying when you're just sharing your experience and seeking support on the previous app.
Very unfortunate it didn't work out, but I'm so proud of you for giving the idea of reaching out and connecting with more people for support and company another shot.
I hope 7 cups is a better experience for you! 💛
