2 part story

I wasn't sure if I should be posting here or the grief and loss channel. Part of my story is the trauma inflicted on me by my brother. The other part is my family's response to it when they found out later in my adulthood. They took his side and eventually cut me out of their lives. I now struggle with (amongst other things) the damage done by my brother and the consequential loss of my family. Any advice or encouragement would be appreciated. I've been pretty stuck on this.

I am sorry you are going thru this. It is bad enough the abuse.

I think family in cases like this are not in total taking sides but wanting desperately to NOT believe it, because acknowledging it would make them question themselves and their parenting skills.   Why they did not know or why they did not stop or address things before.

It reflects on their judgement. Pretending someone is making it up or such is keeping their ideas of how things were intact.   it is why they do not want to talk about it and avoid it. This was my experience in my parents rephrasing or dismissing real things that had happened.
