Advice needed after the hardest year of my life
In the past year I sustained a brain injury that changed my body and causes constant head pain, was betrayed by 3 what I thought were “best” friends (two in a toxic relationship who both scapegoated and ghosted me because I knew too much about both of them cheating on the other, both having mental health issues, one massively addicted to alcohol who talks to “demons” in their house in tongues and the other weaponizing mental health, faking stories for attention, having manic episodes but is somehow never wrong and always attacking me out of jealously, and the third friend became friends with them after the betrayal and I asserted that boundary of not having ties to trauma in my life which they didn’t respect), had to cut off my father due to his continued verbal/emotional harmful nature that has happened since my childhood(I’m now in my late 20s), was “emotionally” cheated on by my partner who was self sabotaging our relationship because they didn’t feel good enough for me despite me treating them like gold and loving them deeply(mental health is a big factor which they are trying to work on), got laid off from my job because of my injury and have to move in two months and have no money(very hard to get a job with this injury), and have become somewhat scared of the world and people despite loving both prior. I’ve always been a social person, very outgoing. I now have little desire to make friends because of what I went through and somehow am still holding onto my hope for the future despite it all. I never got to speak my peace/ stand up for myself with any of the “friends” listed. I was abandoned without closure and made into a villain to help cover up the truth. I’ve never trusted my father but I worked to have a relationship despite all he’s done. It hurts me that he will never change. I’ve let go of all these people, I don’t see them as losses, more so rotten apples or dead limbs shed. I don’t feel hatred, or love. But I am plagued with memories because nostalgia is a liar and my heart is too big for it’s own good. Dreams/nightmares I struggle with. I have felt peace finally with them gone and I know it’s true that they were always problematic it just took all this for me to accept it was the case all along.
My brain injury makes things/thoughts harder to let go of and I’ve felt really alone in this past year of my life. Trying to hold on. I want to make better memories and have a happy future, I want to have friends I can trust and celebrate. I don’t want to be hurt anymore. I’m starting to paint again, slowly getting back into the gym and my foraging hobbies. Unfortunately there was a family death and the funeral fell directly on my birthday this past Saturday and the day of I had chills and that began a 6 day stretch of being completely bedridden with the flu. I wanted this birthday to feel better than the last spent with people who didn’t love me. I’m not sure how to pick myself up after that not being able to happen as well.
If you have any advice or experience I’d really love to hear it. Thanks for reading my story
@blueriver9 gives you a giant tiny hug ❤squeezes you tightly ❤❤ I'm so sorry that is a lot for a year 😞 but you know what a new coming soon. You got rid of all the toxic people, you should be very proud of that ❤ maybe this is the big break your life needed. I got my big break from the past a few years ago. And now I'm safe and happy. It's all gonna be ok, you will get back on your feet, and create better stronger memories and relationships. You've got this ❤ and we are right here with you ❤ have you looked into disabled benefits?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story 🤍 I didn’t think anyone would honestly. I had wanted to post for months and was age wise and I’m glad now that I did. And I think you’re right, I do feel safe finally and maybe that’s all that matters in the end. Your words mean so much to me 🤍 I have lacked community and this really lifted my spirits🤍 I applied for the disability benefits but was denied because I didn’t work long enough prior to fulfill the requirements. Unfortunately
@tinywhisper thank you for making me smile today I forgot to put a tag in my first reply

Hello River, if Is it OK to call you that? You have gone through a lot, and I am so sorry. Those so-called friends were not true friends. We allow people in our lives sometimes, and often times it is hard to recognize their motives or the connection they are expecting to receive from us. A quote I read somewhere said, "If we find one friend in our lifetime, treat them as gold. True friends stick with us through the good and the ugly. So you have not lost friends but rather people who entered your life for a brief moment in time. I believe TD Jakes said if they walk out of your life, they were not meant to be in your life. Life is hard enough, and you have already been through so much. Shake the dust off your feet and step into allowing yourself to heal from all the brokenness. You are strong and courageous. I believe you have a good heart and good intentions. Keep allowing the real you to be present, and you will never truly be alone.
I am so glad you are here amongst friends who understand we have all been there❤️We are here for you just keep posting as you feel. We got your back and your front😂LOL
Hi there that is absolutely okay thank you for being so considerate. Your words brought tears to my eyes in the best of ways and helped me so much in moments where I struggled deeply since I made this post. I am still trying to navigate the pain and change but thanks to you and everyone here on 7cups that took the time to respond I’m seeing the light again. I actually love that video of TD jakes and it felt like an instant connection when I read your words. He says “let them walk” and I have forgotten about that video until he mentioned them. That felt like divine timing and I am so grateful. Thank you for encouraging me to feel and to be me and to post 🤍
@blueriver9
I am so glad to hear you are feeling better. TD Jakes is a good teaching minister. I like him too. Any time you need to vent or talk, you are always welcome to post it here. I am so glad to have met you and hope to see you around the site😊
It’s horrible that you had to go through that. I hope that life gets better for you soon. I think it’s great that you were able to endure such hard times, next year will definitely get better!
