Is it ever okay for a psychiatrist to say this to me?

This is something that happened in the past.

Because of whatever happened, trauma, resentment and burnout combined, I had stopped going to psychiatry hospital for treatment. I forgot exact date and year but lets say its 2023 that I stop going. Then I came back at 2024 for treatment, firstly I met different doctors who prescribe me, but on following sessions I met the first psychiatrist who had diagnosed me on 2021.

The conversation went like this when he discovered I stopped coming to hospital.

Him: why didn't you come? Do you want me to inject your butt? (Slightly squint his eyes)

Me: (fawn response, i laughed) no, please dont.

And then some more stuff happened i cant tell whole story, its unpleasant memory.

I vented on social group about it when i came home. I was in tears and in pain. I was so triggered and shamed. Did i overreacted?

Lemme add the fact that i actually have schizophrenia mother since childhood who resists treatment so she gets injections at home and i had to deal with the trauma for years. This psychiatrist knew about my mom having schizophrenia and what treatment she gets.

Anyway.. i tried opening up to my clinical psychologist back then.. i cried a lot about it.. but the way she approached about it made me feel like i was overreacting.

I think she really focused on cbt. I feel like i wasnt emotionally met.

Was it okay for my psychiatrist to say that?

You did not overreact. Your feelings are valid. You were hurt and offended and it is OK and normal to be hurt and offended in that situation.

I find it helpful to remember that doctors are human. And like all humans they make mistakes. It doesn't make it right, but, if we expect them to always get things right, we are going to be disappointed and frustrated.

Unfortunately, in that situation, you were probably too stressed to be able to deal with what the doctor said. But it is OK to point out how someone has made you feel and ask them to rectify the situation. And if they don't rectify the situation, I hope you can ask for a doctor who helps rather than hinders you.
