You cannot go back and be the person before the trauma occured. but you can choose to become the kind of person you want to be in the future, regardless of the traumatic experiences smiley

@Jesse9675 Hey Jesse, thanks for responding to this question smiley I don't know if it will come as any comfort, but a lot of trauma survivors feel they are different as a result of their experiences and often see this as a negative, because of how trauma affects their lives. I hear that you don't feel your as independent as you would like to be, but you may find this changes over time, as your work through the experiences you have, and start to regain control over your life once more. We can never go back to how we were, but what we can do is decide what we would like in our future and work towards that. Whilst working through trauma issues, the way in which it affects our lifes can be seen as deterimental to our lives etc but as you get stronger and as you begin to heal, you may notice this changes for you

@TakeAStandAgainstBullying

My traumas began at an early age and stopped at 21... I don't really have much of an identity... I'm lost... I have memory issues and PTSD and other long-term impacts...

I feel like trauma broke me in many ways. I lost my coping abilities, strengths, desires, and my emotions over time. It left me unsure of myself, my abilities, and my future.

I am hoping that those things are like broken bones...the more I heal the stronger each area will become until I end up stronger than I was to begin with.

@TeenyTinyAppy Hi Teeny, someone recently allowed me to think of healing from trauma as being like a bird with a broken wing who cant fly but broken wings can mend so for the bird to soar off into the skies, but while healing, it needs to rest and take care of itself :) Its hard when having suffered trauma to believe we can get back all those coping abilities, strengths etc but it takes time and patience and hard work, so you may have many broken bones but with time, care, support, and rest yours too can mend. But just like humans we are all different and so too the length of time it takes to heal :) There is no set timeline, no one is the same as the next person standing to you. You are doing what you can for yourself now and that is good enough :) Its sad any of you have to fight to survive and cope with all that you do, but sadly we are the strong ones, even when we feel broken who can put ourselves back together again with a little support along the way :)

Always remember too, you are stronger than you may feel <3

@TeenyTinyAppy

I hope that you are able to achieve attaining those increased levels of inner strength, as you so desire. I know that traumatic events are challenging to go through; I have been there myself. Wishing you a successful recovery, and much personal growth ahead.

@TakeAStandAgainstBullying experiencing trauma has changed my life because I faced many struggles. I had mad Depression and I was Suicidal. I feared humans because of that day. I had to take one new med. There are many factors of this. It still is a rough time to get over, though after 3 or 4 years I am finally doing things in my life for once.

@TakeAStandAgainstBullying Experiencing Trauma has changed my life because it has made me who I am today and perhaps I would not be doing some of the things I am now, today, if it had not been for my experiences. That being said, no one should have to experience trauma but sometimes you can take a really bad and painful experience and turn it to your advantage and one that ultimately may also help others :)
