@Kate but i am not helpless and hopeless.
I have experienced trauma but I am not weak
@Kate I LOVE this!!
I was having a discussion about *bravery* last night. I used to be FEARLESS before my traumas. Bold + Adventurous.
I am much more cautious now, and practice more bravery than I ever used to before.
It takes so much strength to Face Your Fears, Everyday.
@bayandclove
How do you still feel brave? I used to be so strong and independent and then I just broke. I want to go back to how I was, but I don't know if I can..
@TiredOfFighting404
I can relate to this. I experienced many traumas from childhood. They affected me a lot, initially, because I was too little to understand I had to fight depression, that I didn't have to feel like that. But when I understood it, I started fighting it back like a racing train: bad things happened, other traumas also, but I kept fighting it back, I never really surrendered to it, I never gave up, not even for a second. Then, random, it suddently slipped out of control, and I was never the same. Like... Where's the "me" I was before? Whay happened to her? Why can't I get her back? It was all a lot easier with her. She wasn't so afraid that she couldn't get up from bed, sleep, eat properly, go outside the house, do the house chores, do the shop, workout, study, read, draw, deal with stress, deal with her family, hang out with friends, so many things... Why can't I even get up from bed?
@TiredOfFighting404 I have been through many traumatic events both as a child and as an adult. It knocks you to your knees. Ive wanted to give up but somehow Im still here. I recover a little each day. Yes I am still sensitive to triggers but I am also an advocate who can understand and protect those in need like my son who is disabled. In a strange way I feel stronger than others who havent had to face what I have.
I know with help and support you will find a different strength. Whatever you have had to face, you are here. Thank you for being brave enough to speak. That is strength in the face of adversity!
@TiredOfFighting404
Bravery is about acting in the face of our fears.
When we look back on the bold, adventurous, independent things we used to enjoy - some of us may realize that these things didn't actually scare us all that much.
If we think about it, we were probably more fearLESS than Brave.
As we recover from trauma, our response to ordinary life events can become disproportionately fearful. Things that never would have caused us so much as a thought before, like crossing the street or making a phone call, now have the potential to bring up feelings of panic and terror.
And while we may avoid doing many the things that scare us, some of those things are simply unavoidable. A life of recovery requires that most of us are doing things that scare the crap out of us *all the time*.
It may not look like much, but:
We Face Our Fears more than we ever have before,
We FaceThem Everyday.

I have experienced trauma, but I am not fazed by it.
I have experienced trauma, but I don't let it affect me
I have experienced trauma, but I learn from it
I have experienced trauma, but I refuse to give up my joy.

I have experienced trauma but I am not broken.
I have experienced trauma but I am not hopeless or broken, I am not a lost cause or damaged goods. Trauma doesn't define who I am as a person, surviving and getting through the thought and memories associated with it does and with that I AM a warrior!
I have experienced trauma, but I'm not dead yet!![]()
