Long-Term Bullying

July 24th, 2014

I'm 29 years old and was bullied by mostly guys from grade 2 to grade 10. I've gotten to a certain point in my life with volunteering, being in theater, getting out, better self-image, etc.

Currently feel: trust issues (especially with men), the feeling that people don't like to talk to me leading to me wavering on contact and then coming back, when I talk to people (in some situations) being behind a plate glass window when I'm speaking to them, and generally feeling unsafe in places where I can be. Dating is out of the question at the moment. I feel like I'm behind everyone else.

My father who is an alcoholic left when I was 3 in order to protect the family. I'd like to know if anyone else has had the same situation.

I think it's understandable to have trouble trusting, particularly men, given your history of being bullied and of your father leaving, but I hope that with time you're able to heal from that pain and to find that trust again, at least for those who deserve it. Hope you're doing well.

I am 32, and I too suffered long term bullying from age 4 - 16, and then again as an adult.

I am married, whith children to the man I met when I was 15 but it hasn't been easy and my trust issues are mainly with females and people my own age (so that changes as I age). I don't have much advice but it is understandable what you are goign through and you are not alone.

Hope you're ok.

I sympathize with you, I am 20 years old male, my current life in college is great, no problems with friends and family. But sometimes I have this flashback of my traumatic experience in elementary school. I had been bullied by almost all of the male in the class, I was weak and soft, never did I stand my ground. I believe my economic background is what makes them envied of me, since i live quite well in poor neighboorhood. Its literally hell on earth.

Back to my flashback, it happens randomly like I just felt like the past memories are playing so fast in my mind, i don't know if it count as PTSD or not. but yeah when I experiences it, i just tense my grip and hope that people wont see me acting weird. *sorry for bad english
