Healing from trauma

Hello everyone,

I'm dealing with trauma-type symptoms after having an event at work last year that affected me greatly. I am not sure it strictly qualifies as a trauma but I have been experiencing a lot of stress-like symptoms and am scared of things and feel not very able to much right now.

Does anyone have any tips for recovering and healing from this? I tried EMDR last year and it went well but the therapy I was in unfortunately ended badly. I think I am going to sign up for EMDR therapy again but I'd like to see if I can manage this on my own.

I've tried writing about it but it doesn't help very much. Everytime I sit down & deal on my own with this I don't feel it helps very much, I feel like having a safe space to process it would help, but I'm not sure how to get there. My social support circle is limited atm so can't really talk to a whole lot of people.

Has anyone dealt with trauma/stress type situations and manage to overcome them? I just feel all-consumed, I can't do anything because I feel so terrible all the time & experience headaches and feel overburdened very quickly. I try to exercise every 2 days but that only does so much.

Not sure if anyone can help me, but I am searching for how to proceed because I really want to recover and leave this behind me. I'm so limited in everything I do and hate it. I was hoping maybe someone had experienced something similar and found things on their own that helped them improve.

Thank you for reading and if anyone has any knowledge I'd love to hear.

(Until I get better I am determined to keep fighting, it is hard at times but I am determined to recover and be able to work again & be independent on my own self again).

@KittyKeats
Hey, Kitty thanks for taking the courage to come out here and share your story with us! I understand that you feel stressed many times and you are trying to recover from a traumatic experience/event I can imagine how frustrating that must be for you not to have anyone to share your story with, I would like to let you know that we are here for you! I personally never tried EMDR so I can't tell you if it helps but I guess that finding a safe community like 7 cups helps you to bring out your feelings and hopefully you'll find here some amazing people that will help you cope! I hope it's getting better very soon!
Green. 💚

@KittyKeats. I'm so sorry you are suffering from trauma. I seriously can relate. I've had more than one trauma and I've been working with a therapist for 3 years. I am better but not able to be independent. Some days are just difficult and painful. But not giving up I just keep going. Time I guess is really the best so far for me. I know, it's so difficult to wait it out because it's hurts so much and you want to get on with your life. Keep looking you will find your healing. 7 cups is an awesome help for me. I do journal alot, I have hobbies and a couple good friends. But I go forward and backward alot in my journey to healing. I hope my post was a little helpful for you, at least you can see your not alone ....best 💜 ABB

Thank you for the message.
I am not sure what I have strictly qualifies as trauma. But it has affected me so greatly, I could never have imagined being in this situation, so vulnerable and unable to do simple things because I am still tied up in past events.
I find going to this place helps, if only to read others going through the same (not a pleasant thing, but all the same I am grateful to be able to converse with others who are in similar situations).
I am sorry you have experienced trauma. It is truly a terrible thing to be so pained by past events, and struggling to move past them. Though I am happy for you that you have friends & supportive tools to help you get through this. I find spending time with my friends helps a lot too, if just to get away and feel connected among others instead of sitting alone with this.
I am trying to up my physical exercise routine too. This mourning I cycled 50 minutes on one of those gym machines, it does feel good to exert myself, but I can only do it so much since I don't want to overexert myself. But I am hoping it may help in the long run.

Coming back from the depths to report with just an update

Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to find a therapist to give me EMDR. I found a therapist who wants to do another approach... long story short it's messy but still hoping for a good outcome.

In the meantime, I've tried loooots of different things, like I'm pretty sure I've crossed of nearly everything on the typical list, writing meditating exercise etc. etc. they all never did much for me.

Right now I still have a looot of headaches. I am doing TRE (Tension Release Exercise), I found it on a random website. I was skeptical but it really does seem to help me relax a little bit more. Last week I did TRE for the first week and it was amazing (on my own with video guide), but since then I feel it's kind of not done as much for me (still have the headaches & pain in my lower neck which SUCK to hell).

Just an update, don't know if other people are still struggling, but it is the only thing in a hundred different things I tried that seemed to help a bit... hoping for therapy to take me further but until then I'm gonna try different things and hopefully find something that helps!!

(and if anyone has any stuff that they find helps feel free to post if you want!)
