I’m in a relationship with someone that suffers from ptsd it’s very hard to live them because I don’t know how to approach it. I feel like he isolates himself and it’s hard for me to not think I’m doing something wrong or like it’s my fault. I want to just show him love and support but I want to respect his space as well how can I approach.

I’m really sorry this is happening with both of you. PTSD is a mental illness and people cope with it in different ways. Isolation is a normal defensive way to let you that he needs help. Words sometimes cannot be the best way to talk about it but keep showing love and support as well as patience. We didn’t choose to be traumatized but he definitely chose to stay close to you. Thank you for trying to understand and for seeking help for your loved one.

Having a loved one with PTSD can be very challenging, its important to practice self care. Distancing/isolating is a very common thing for people that suffer from PTSD.

I'm sure your loved one knows you are doing your best and that you are there for them and supporting them, I would say trying to communicate with them and being open about their suffering is always a good step to take, understanding each other. It's hard to talk about PTSD as it comes with shame and guilt.

know that your loved ones struggles are in no way your fault and that you are doing everything you can, but please take care of yourself too <3 if you need to take a few steps back to self care please do so. we are here for you
