Hello,

my spouse ended up with PTSD and I have noticed alot of changes in him towards me.

We did not have a perfect marriage but now that he has PTSD he has become scarier to communicate with. Not as rational. I use to think it was all the hours worked now he doesnt work. I'm wondering if there is a book or some type of guidance to help a loved one who has PTSD

@wermers

I feel the best kind of guidance is your thoughtfulness and intent to support your loved one. You here asking for support to be able to help him is all things love and companionship at its best, and I'm so proud of you for being the loving and caring person you are.

I understand how him struggling with ptsd is causing discomfort in your relationship with him also. It can be hard to communicate with someone when they aren't in the best headspace. I find being gentle and patient to be helpful traits here, when someone's struggling, they may not be very welcoming of "support" also, but having a gentle assurance, that around you is a safe space for them, and you're willing to be there and make them feel comfortable to express anything (if they like) at their pace ofcourse, they are more than welcome to.

Being non-judgmental, and accommodating of one's emotions and experiences too helps them feel safer, we may not always understand or agree with something, and that's okay, it's difficult navigating the experiences with trauma, and everything it unfolds, one dealing with such deserve all their time and space, along with lots of kindness and patience from those around.

Perhaps it may help to learn more about ptsd, and equip with some resources, you can also share with your partner (if and when they are ready to talk through), you can find some of these located in 7 cups here (clickable). Also a helpful guide to support someone struggling with PTSD.

It can be frustrating and overwhelming for you too at times, and hey hey, know that it is okay to feel as you do, we are allowed to have a space for our own emotions as well. ❤ While you're trying to support your partner and being there for him, please also take good care of yourself. You deserve all the love, support, compassion and patience as well.

Sending love your way.❤
