Newly Diagnosed CPTSD

I was just diagnosed with CPTSD on Thursday by a neurologist. I bought the book "Complex PTSD: from surviving to thriving" by Pete Walker to help me try to figure out the next steps and how to cope.

I'm finding myself unable to emotionally attach myself to really much of anything since then, and everything I'm reading makes sense to me, but I'm not understanding how to move forward.

Does anybody who also struggles with CPTSD have any tips on starting small towards recovery?

Pete Walker is a very good choice. I would advise exploring what triggers you. Determine what and who you really need and want in your life. Exercise good nutrition adequate sleep critical. For me it has been helpful to say no to anti anxiety medication. Study boundaries. Therapy if you can access and afford it. Quiet relaxing music.

@quietDay3677

What type of music has helped you relax?

I typically listen to nature sounds and some instrumentals.

I have C-PTSD also and I remember I was in denial for a long time. I think the things that helped me most in my recovery seem to be therapy, journaling, keep track of triggers (like quietday said in last response). Learning and understanding. I have a workbook called "Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma" by Janina Fisher. I really like it, but even working on recovery for a long time I've had to work through it slowly or I find myself getting triggered.

@crashy hi I'm lola ❤ yeah I have cptsd, it's not easy. I was diagnosed a few years ago. After I was rescued, 18 years a slave. I'm still trying to work out how to move forward too😞 I think varys from person to person. Just find the little things that make you happy, go to therapy. Just take it one day at a time ❤❤ gives you a giant tiny hug ❤

Hi,

It is great book and will definitely help you understand the role your body is playing in re-living the trauma constantly and how you can help yourself.

I really liked that book a lot, and there are many pages I have cried through because I could relate to it so much and felt heard.

I read about this tip online and it has helped me on a daily basis, maybe it will help you, I have just marked those pages which resonated with me and I just read them sometimes - instead of reading the entire book.

Having said this, there may also be times when you may not relate to some things mentioned in the book based on your experience, but keep going on; the journey of this book is marvelous.
