TRAUMA therapy, what to expect?

I'm in therapy but I'm about to start therapy to deal with trauma that I've experienced from being a child to adulthood. What can I expect the therapy to be like and does anyone have an examples on how the therapy went?

@emotionalHuman4015 Based on what I've been told by therapists who work with trauma (in real life, not at 7 Cups), it's difficult to guess what to expect, because different therapists work in different ways.

It would be reasonable to ask the therapist what their approach is going to be. In fact, one therapist I know sends an information sheet before the first session, to explain what's going to happen.

If you can find out which approach your therapist is going to use, then you can search the Internet and probably find examples. If you don't know their approach, there's probably no point reading examples that could turn out to be misleading.

If you'd like to chat about the situation, feel free to click on my profile picture and message me.

Thank you. I will certainly try to look into the approach the therapist will use.

Hello!
RarelyCharlie brought up some good points that I wish I knew years ago when going through therapy and bringing up my childhood and early adulthood.
Being able to have an open dialog with the therapist would help you to come prepared to open up and share more and get more out of the hour you have together.
Keeping a notebook so you can jot things down before, during and after sessions is helpful too. I wish I had done that. There will be a lot of information to process and you will also likely have questions to ask or things to bring up.
Remember to be gentle with yourself as there may likely be many emotions popping up, and if you can, have some extra free time to rest and relax as it can be stressful.
Also remember you were a child who deserved to be loved, respected and cared for even though it may not have happened that way.
Good luck and feel free to share here and ask more if you'd like.
