Every once in a while I experience an uptick in clairvoyant activity, as many survivors of trauma often do.

Last night I felt a brooding energy around me and felt as though I was being pushed through the floor. When I fell asleep I experienced a false awakening nightmare, a dream within a dream, that shifted into a lucid dream. It was as disorienting as one might imagine.

Healthline writes,

“Similar to lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis, false awakenings are considered one of the hybrid, or overlap, states between sleep and wakefulness.

Many people who experience false awakenings also have lucid dreams.

In a lucid dream, you realize you’re dreaming. This knowledge allows you to maintain some control over your surroundings and even change the course of the dream.

There’s also some evidence to suggest lucid dreams commonly end in false awakenings. You might even “wake up” and start describing your dream to someone else before truly waking up.

A false awakening can become a lucid dream, especially if you begin to notice certain details that differ slightly from reality.

For example, your furniture might not be in the usual place, your lamp might not turn on, or you might open a book and find you can’t read any of the words.

Suspecting you aren’t actually awake might lead you to try manipulating the dream in some way or telling yourself to wake up.”

Upon waking I saged our home, poured my first cup of coffee, and grabbed Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams - The very same book of which had been the topic of discussion only five minutes earlier.

Also, our Swallow birds have returned to their nest on our patio for a third season. They are a good omen that promise love, loyalty, good fortune, and peace.

I’m not sure what the message is, but I do know the world is on fire, and we all need to love each other more. 🖤🐾

I’m not a regular lucid dreamer. But, I have experienced it a couple times before unintentionally. It can be quite scary. Very vivid and intense! It’s interesting how our subconscious can come alive during our sleep. 💜

A sincere thank you for your reply, Joy! Sleep science is truly so interesting and can tell us so much about our waking life if we pay attention. I have always been a very intense dreamer. It used to really rattle me to the point of drinking at 9am. Lucid dreaming has restored some of my control. I have also found that keeping a dream journal is interesting and helpful.

I can lucid dream. I also get false awakenings from time to time. I’ve had really bad lucid nightmares. In those, I’m aware and I attempt to change the outcome of the dream or get out of it, but sometimes I can’t. Those are horrifying
