Abused by my Own Parent

I was abused physically, sexually, and emotionally when I was a child from the ages of 8-16. My parents were alcoholics. I will disclose that I am a male. This is important, because I always got told "Boys don't cry, suck it up!" Most of this came from my parents. I wish I could undo it. I wish it never happened. I wish I didn't have to hurt every day. I feel stuck. I know that there is no cure. What happened, happened. What's done is done. I can't bring myself to accept that. People constantly tell me it gets better with time, but I'm having a hard time believing that.

You survived something that could break anyone. There are no words to desribe how sorry I am, and how strong you must have been. You may not see it this way, but the simple fact of still being here is a sign of incredible strength.

Strength doesn't mean not crying. Actually, crying and letting things out is fundamental, for both boys and girls. You can't keep suppressing your emotions, they must come out in some way. Crying is good. It hurts, but trying to ignore things would hurt even more eventually. You're not supposed to pretend it's all ok. Because it's not ok. You have the right to cry, the right to feel hurt, and the right to share this. I know getting support isn't easy, but coming here to talk about it is already a great step, sharing this with other people or a therpist may be harder but that's worth trying too.

The things is, you are valuable, and you mustn't forget this. What happened doesn't define who you are. People aren't defined by what others did to them, they're only defined by themselves. Trauma, injustice, pain, this is what others did to you and that is not your identity. Strength came from within you, and that is your identity. That, and many other beautiful qualities that you surely have and they couldn't suppress, though they may be hiding deep down.

Discover yourself. Find what is good in you. Value it. share it. Share the good and the bad as much as you can. Somet things can't erased, but there are other things for you in your future. Take every little moment of happiness you may be able to find as a victory and motivation. Will it get better? I believe so, but even if you don't believe it now, you still deserve a chance to fight for yourself and your future.

I send you all my love and my best wishes. I know it's not much. But I hope it helps to know that I believe in you.

@Aayla Thank you SO much for the kind words, and encouragement. Thankfully I am in therapy, and a lot of my closest friends I've told are supporting me greatly. Trust me, this helped a TON today. So, thank you. ❤

I am a victim of child abuse myself and I am male...I could not prosecute my father due to corruption, I could not kill him because I did not want to go to jail...
