How do I get over my fear ?
I've been having little flashbacks about the sexual assault that I went through for 10 months. I feel it especially in my throat, because of certain things that this person did to me. Because I feel it in my throat, I struggle to eat a lot which made my brain believe that I have severe allergies and that my throat with close up because of it. I also eat in super small bites that take me forever to swallow because I'm scared of choking. Due to this, I am almost underweight.
Ive always grown up hearing that I'm lucky because I dont have allergies. I saw the doctor recently and even my doctor told me that I do not have severe allergies. Additionally, I've never had an allergy in my life. However, I have very mild lactose intolerance.
But because I know I don't have allergies why am I still scared ? How do I move past this ? I miss being able to eat without fear and miss not checking what ingredients are in food. I didn't use to care, and I miss that so much.
@vanillamilkshake123. It sounds like your going through a really difficult time. There are listeners here at 7cups that you could chat with about this. Sometimes it’s helpful to talk about it and get support. You would have to check in Browse Listeners for listeners that accept chats on sexual assault. If your having a lot trouble eating due to these flashbacks a therapist with experience in trauma might be able to help also. There are doctors who do testing for allergies if you think that would help you to ease your fears of allergies. I hope that you’ll be able to find something that helps.
