7Cups, The Dangers of Safe-Space Culture and Censorship

This might take a bit of time to read through, but i wrote this very carefully and hopefully very cohesively enough, sorry for any spelling mistakes or typos. 😅

LANGUAGE; HOW WE TWIST THE IMPORTANCE OF WORDS:
We all know about 'bad words', words you are not supposed to say, because they may offend certain individuals, many people will protest words in the name of "justice" on behalf of defending others from offense, however i find this particularly condescending, it describes you as weak because you let words control your life, why would you do that?

There is nothing inherently bad about any word, every word has history, but only a few words are given the amount of power that "bad words" are, a lot of people choose to resent these words instead of trying to understand them, and the context they can be used in, they're used for venting, or for when you hurt yourself, in an argument, in jokes, for making a point a lot more impactful, or to scream at others in traffic, in any case these words are not bad, why? becuse they alleviate pain and distress and on a site such as this isn't that something to consider a good thing? let us be honest here, if you're reading this and you're one of these people condeming these words, are you honestly suggesting that you've never swore in your life? then isn't it hypocritical to belittle others for swearing, or to make up rules that control language?

Let's also not forget that we've got words that aren't even offensive or "bad words" in their natural context, however they're still looked down upon and downright censored on this website, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about if you've ever been in group chat.

SENSE OF HUMOR:
I go through issues with my sense of humor constantly, my humor isn't for everybody, your sense of humor is naturally going to be offensive to anyone because of the fact that everyone is individually different and have experienced different things, but i am as a result often censored, this is not only a 7Cups issue as jokes and comedy is also something that gets criticised all the time outside and on your monitors all the time in the media, people take jokes too seriously and want their 15 minutes of fame getting offended for something they could simply ignore, here is the solution if you are in power, don't give in to the offended, stop patching up their bubbles, growing up is realizing that the world doesn't revolve around you all the time and that you shouldn't have the power to tear someone down for not liking something they said.

I believe comedy, whether it is pretty vanilla and family friendly, or dark and grim, can help everyone because laughter is one of the best medicines there is, you can forget your troubles, and it can make an impact on your life, a good joke, no matter how dark it is, can also change your mind for the better, you can say that this kind of humor doesn't suit 7Cups, but then who does 7Cups fit? just a certain demographic of hurt people? or does it fit everyone with struggles? i've heard it's suppposed to be for everyone, but still people are silenced for being themselves here.

CONTEXT MATTERS:
This relates to 7Cups and muting/banning, i would say that 50% of the time, people are being taken completely out of context, a person who chooses to report someone, may themselves have broken several rules a few paragraphs above the 'offenders' message(s) in group chat or during personal messages, and it is very annoying to be affected by this or to watch someone you care about being affected by this, then there's the fact that a lot of mods, and i believe a portion of the admins are downright corrupt, how are people supposed to feel safe in an environment where you've got people eyeballing you waiting for their turn to shut you up out of animosity or for little power trip or because they're convinced that rules/guidelines matter more than your right to speak your mind about your life and what your issues are? how does that help a person with their issues?

context matters, it is the deciding factor in whether or not someone is innocent or guilty, why is the concept of fairness something so scary on this website?

CONCLUSION:
Are we being protected from ourselves? or are we being protected from each other? why are we being protected at all? we're adults, we should be able to tackle jokes, we should be able to tackle criticism, the day everyone, no matter what side you're on, start getting censored, is the day when the people in power get complete control over you, and that is a scary thing to think about and something that may very well happen if we as people don't step up about these issues.

The dangers coming from this new PC culture, is that as a people, as a species, we become so weak and brittle that we will turn on each other at every opportunity to protect ourselves from things that are non-issues, we have started creating problems where there are none, because we are running out of real life issues in the west, i personally think we've ought to step outside ourselves, to become selfless and caring, honest, empathetic, sympathetic, understanding, intelligent and down to earth.

This website deals with a lot of serious issues, and the whole reason i wrote this is because i feel a lot of people are treated unfairly here depending on where you are in life, hopefully if you read this far you understand that what we're dealing with is important if this website is to be taken seriously.

If we want this community to be supportive, then we've got to admit to ourselves that EVERYONE, no matter how much you resent or love or hate or care for someone, whether you consider them a friend, or an enemy - they've got issues of their own that you've got consider and respect so your world views wont collide, can we be mature enough to do such a thing?

as Potter Stewart would say "Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself."

From Kekistan with love.
👌🐸💖

What you say is entirely true. However, it's not the whole story.

Yesterday I crossed an international border on the way home after a break, and I experienced the absurd "security theater" that's acted out at many popular border crossings. If you Google the term security theater you can find lots of information about its lack of effectiveness and the indirect harm it causes.

I'd say 7 Cups' absurd efforts at censorship are in the same category.

The benefit of security theater is that it helps some frightened people to feel safe. For example, people who suffer from disorders like anxiety, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and paranoia often feel unsafe. We can help them to feel safe by making up arbitrary rules and enforcing them for everyone. The rules don't make anyone safer in reality, and in fact they may cause a certain amount of harm, but they make some vulnerable people feel safer, and that's the thing we're aiming for.

In a world where everyone was highly intelligent, rational and mentally well, no one would need to make up these kinds of rules. But in the real world we all inhabit, many people are foolish, irrational or mentally ill. Out of kindness to those people, we make up these rules and play-act enforcing them.

@PerpetuallyKekastrophic i really love that you started a discussion on this this what you said is what ive been thinking for a long time i have been wanting to post a ben franklin quote about censorship and safety since the expanded guidelines came out prohibiting offensive/unsupportive content https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/CommunityGuidelines_1374/ but i decided not to because i thought some quotes would be over the top offensive for 7cups and worried i would lose my account because other people have lost their listener accounts for doing much less than than posting the offensive unsupportive words such as ...

@jennysunrise8 Not at all a problem, i've had issues with the guidelines ever since 7cups started, i've seen good people get booted out for small mistakes or simply leave on their own volition because they simply couldn't take the ridiculous restrictments anymore, i feel like after these 4-something years that cups have been alive, it's progressing in the wrong direction, something has to be done, and the only thing we can really do is let our voices be heard, so thanks to you for partaking in the conversation!

(also, that's a great Benjamin Franklin quote!) 👍

Hi @PerpetuallyKekastropic

Youve made an important point here; we do indeed often need to set ourselves and our opinions aside, be mindful of context (knowing this is a support site), be selfless, empathetic, understanding, mature and so on. This is exactly why we need to be careful with language and jokes around here. I understand that it must be hard for you to fathom if you cant relate with others experiences, but there are people here whove gone through all kinds of horrors, who are facing awful times in their lives, who are totally alone and in need of a safe space to help them recover. Unfortunately the reality is that a therapist is not an option for everyone. With millions of websites out there, is it really such a bad thing that we do have one space where unkindness, insensitivity or ignorant ‘jokes are not tolerated? We are not all adults, there are people as young as 13 who use the site, probably some even younger, and we cant always be sure that people have been truthful about their age when signing up so there may even be children in the adult chats - on top of that of course there will be people with with illnesses such as DID so may at times present as significantly younger. Why take away a space which can help people heal and build their confidence, when to do so could put them into an even more vulnerable or even fatal position? For some people, 7 Cups is all the support they have.

Yes this is a space for everyone, and in order for it to remain a space everybody feels able to find support there do need to be guidelines we all follow, taking into consideration all kinds of sensitivities. Im afraid I struggle to see how these guidelines prevent you from finding the support you need here. This isnt a social networking site; its a support site. If you feel the need to make these other-deprecating ‘jokes or explicitly express yourself without fear of censorship, I would recommend you try something like whisper which is a free app and is also anonymous.

Im afraid it seems you have been continuously contradicting yourself; I know weve spoken before when you made one of your ‘jokes in the lgbtq+ forums, Ive seen your bio and a couple of other posts youve made elsewhere and it makes me think that maybe you should consider for a moment whether these comments you make yourself are indeed mature, caring, understanding, intelligent… It is worth bearing in mind that you may have friends or family who are affected by the things that you joke about, and if they havent told you the chances are these jokes will have a much bigger negative impact on them, making them lose respect, trust or hope in your support, were they to tell you. (This is something I have experienced personally and in the end it only backfired on her, and seems to do so continuously with all the friends she makes. So I guess what Im saying is that it is worth being kind and respectful for the sake of your own reputation, if not for the sake of others mental/emotional well-being). I know that when you tell a joke and it gets a good reaction, its tempting to use it over and over, but maybe youve heard the expression Its only funny once - when youre part of one of these marginalised communities, hearing the same ‘jokes over and over does stop being funny very quickly and takes a toll on well-being, causing (or worsening) internalised oppression which then leads to all kinds of other issues.

I understand that you use humour as a coping mechanism - many of us do in all kinds of ways - but if youre continuously finding that it backfires and hurts others, and then leaves you feeling unhappy too because youre not being understood (I mean, everyone just wants to be understood, right?) then maybe its time to consider some other healthier and more positive ways of coping. That may even just be exploring adaptive humour rather than maladaptive. That said, you might also be interested to know, studies have shown that between self and other deprecating humour, people who use self-deprecating humour are deemed as more likeable, healthier mentally and are more secure, whereas jokes made at the expense of others are generally regarded as unattractive, immature and is linked to low interpersonal competence and the jokers and own insecurities. At the end of the day, the truth is that happy people do not need to bring others down in order to feel good.

Finally, I do not think that we have become weak or brittle. I think that people have become fed up and finally had the strength to stand up for themselves, refusing to be pushed around and disrespected any longer. Many of these problems which might have previously been considered non-existent have indeed always existed, but people have not had the courage, community, support or ability to speak out and to demand the respect they deserve. Weakness is not standing up for yourself; weakness is picking on the easiest targets, worsening stigma, following the crowd with ignorant jokes or comments, and refusing to educate yourself and show that empathy and understanding as to why this language or these comments are inappropriate.

Objectively, I agree - it is a shame that language and comments can have such a huge negative impact on people and itd be great if we could all just not care. However this just isnt realistic - it never has been the case, and the chances are it never will be. When a loved one says something unkind, it hurts. Youve stated how you like to use expletives because you feel they make your points more powerful, but if people didnt respond emotionally to language, would that not make everything you say essentially meaningless? What then would be the point in using these words if you know they arent going to have the impact you want them to have on people? Are these emotional responses we experience not what makes us human?

@AMusicalSilence You make a lot of great points, things that i find factual and important, however there are also things mentioned here that i feel are dangerous, this will take a while to read through, so please be patient with my response.

"Youve made an important point here; we do indeed often need to set ourselves and our opinions aside, be mindful of context (knowing this is a support site), be selfless, empathetic, understanding, mature and so on. Why take away a space which can help people heal and build their confidence, when to do so could put them into an even more vulnerable or even fatal position? For some people, 7 Cups is all the support they have."

Believe me, i've spoken to people as a listener for several years, i know the kind of terrible things people have gone through that have left them broken, i myself joined this website back in 2014 to cope with my suicidal depression as therapy didn't work out for me, although humor has, and finding people here who share my sense of humor, and to some degree share my worldview helped tremendously, however most of these people have now either left, or been banned, to 'protect' people in a similar state of agony, the only sin committed is that they didn't share their worldview, guess what? for a lot of those people who got forced out, 7 Cups is ALL they had. it's where they connected with their friends, it's where they could share their life stories, it's where they could be understood.

"Yes this is a space for everyone, and in order for it to remain a space everybody feels able to find support there do need to be guidelines we all follow, taking into consideration all kinds of sensitivities. I disagree, everyone is fundamentally different and don't need to be infantalized to the degree that this website does to make you feel safe, it's uncomfortable and doesn't make people stronger, it makes them weaker, because it doesn't prepare them to survive in a world that's unfair, it creates a bubble mentality where they constantly HAVE to feel safe, that's not healthy, that's really really unhealthy and leads people down a dark path, i believe that we need something like the guidelines for structure, but it appears the guidelines are used to protect people from non-issues, i once saw a girl get muted and then banned for talking about her period, is that how sensitive you want people to be? sensitivies isn't something we should just accept like it's okay, sensitivies is something to be challenged and overcome.

"Im afraid it seems you have been continuously contradicting yourself; I know weve spoken before when you made one of your ‘jokes in the lgbtq+ forums, Ive seen your bio and a couple of other posts youve made elsewhere and it makes me think that maybe you should consider for a moment whether these comments you make yourself are indeed mature, caring, understanding, intelligent… It is worth bearing in mind that you may have friends or family who are affected by the things that you joke about, and if they havent told you the chances are these jokes will have a much bigger negative impact on them, making them lose respect, trust or hope in your support, were they to tell you. I think it's always condescending to assume that people will just be outright offended when someone makes a joke, i've met a lot of people here who i wouldn't hesitate to call friends, some of which are gay, they make even worse jokes then me and back in the day it almost became a competition in grossing each other out (between me and them,) also my family has a great sense of humor and doesn't care about the things i say, whether they are online or offline, human relationships go deeper than the things said on the surface, if you're willing to throw away a friendship, or a family member because they've made a joke with content you disagree with, how much did you in actuality love and respect that person? as for the person you mentioned, she needs to hang out with a different crowd of people, i'd probably be friends with her if i knew her, because i'm not one to throw my own under the bus, as for jokes not being funny for being used too much, i agree, which is why i switch it up from time to time, also due to some of my mental disorders, i'm probably also part of one of these "marginalised" communities, but i simply just don't care, as i despise groupthink and think individual rights are way more important, also "internalised oppression", really? i do not care about people being triggered, people's feelings or sexuality are not my responsibility, it's theirs.

"I understand that you use humour as a coping mechanism - many of us do in all kinds of ways - but if youre continuously finding that it backfires and hurts others, and then leaves you feeling unhappy too because youre not being understood (I mean, everyone just wants to be understood, right?) then maybe its time to consider some other healthier and more positive ways of coping. At the end of the day, the truth is that happy people do not need to bring others down in order to feel good."

I've never said it makes me unhappy when a joke backfires, as i've already mentioned, people are individualy different, it would be foolish to assume that everyone finds my sense of humor appealing, but that is why you have to try it out in different communities, to expose people to things they may like, or dislike. it is how you discover things about yourself which is an important part of personal growth, i mean it's great to be understood and all but i prefer when there is a difference in opinion, also i hate when people say "studies have shown ..." okay? what studies, give me links or something, back it up, because humor is again, very individual and subjective, i find both types of humor appealing, i love self-deprecating humor, but i also love watching roasts for instance, or heck, even GETTING roasted, it's how i've led most of my teenage life to my now - adult life and i couldn't be happier with myself, i'm not perfect, but i'm getting to a place where i'm comfortable in my own skin, and i couldn't have done it without other people disagreeing with me, or critique, or people helping me along the way and getting to know me - but i'm not going to change my sense of humor for the sake of someone else's sensebilities, that's ridiculous, in most situations they wouldn't change their moral code for the sake of my "sensibilities" whatever they may be and i believe they should be able to say whatever they want to say anyway.

"Finally, I do not think that we have become weak or brittle. I think that people have become fed up and finally had the strength to stand up for themselves, refusing to be pushed around and disrespected any longer. Weakness is not standing up for yourself; weakness is picking on the easiest targets, worsening stigma, following the crowd with ignorant jokes or comments, and refusing to educate yourself and show that empathy and understanding as to why this language or these comments are inappropriate."

So for instance, are the people who get up and report an employee for an "offensive" joke, gets them fired and homeless on the street, couragous and brave? or people who join neo-marxist anarcho communist movements like Antifa, beat up old people, and slam bike locks into people's heads and nearly kill them, whilst they go home and spam the #metoo hashtag or talk about how uncomfortable they are with todays language or that someone's pronouns aren't respected? or how they flood to someone's blog to bully and guilt trip them to the point of attempted suicide, it's laughable what counts as "couragous" nowadays, is this antisocial, narcissistic, (borderline-)psychotic behavior something we really ought to feed? maybe these aren't the social pirhanas you have in mind, but they sure seem to share a lot of the same buzzwords.

"Objectively, I agree - it is a shame that language and comments can have such a huge negative impact on people and itd be great if we could all just not care. Are these emotional responses we experience not what makes us human?"

I agree, but that's no reason to stop, we have to condition ourselves not to care, we have really big problems out there, and it isn't what kind of "offensive" language you're using, also, no, the point of what i'm saying ISN'T just the offensive or impactful words used, it's the whole message that matters, if people stopped caring about swearwords, the only thing i would utter would be something like "oh cool, we can all stand on the same ground without wanting to kill each other over meaningless words that we've somehow decided to give an incredible amount of power to, neat."

your critique of my critique and my critique of your critique or rather, my and your differences aside, i really do appreciate that you've taken part in the conversation, it's a start, and that's better than nothing, not sure if you'll respond, but hey, at least you gave it a shot. 👌🐸 (also hopefully you see where i'm coming from with what i've responded with, i'm a bit sleepy, lol)

@PerpetuallyKekastrophic (nicking your layout cause it's so much easier than trying to put everything together in one big response! laugh This is still going to be a big response... Oops. Oh and no worries - ditto with the sleepyness)

"Believe me, i've spoken to people as a listener for several years, i know the kind of terrible things people have gone through that have left them broken, i myself joined this website back in 2014 to cope with my suicidal depression as therapy didn't work out for me, although humor has, and finding people here who share my sense of humor, and to some degree share my worldview helped tremendously, however most of these people have now either left, or been banned, to 'protect' people in a similar state of agony, the only sin committed is that they didn't share their worldview, guess what? for a lot of those people who got forced out, 7 Cups is ALL they had. it's where they connected with their friends, it's where they could share their life stories, it's where they could be understood."

Ahh I think I see where youre coming from. Im really glad to hear that you have found something that does work for you and I hope youve managed to work your way out of those negative thoughts and feelings now. I am sorry to hear that youve lost people as a result of these guidelines, and I suppose this is one of the disadvantages of the rule about no off-site contact… Since everybody here is at different stages of recovery, that does unfortunately mean that we probably have to cater to those who are right at the beginning, those most sensitive and in the most vulnerable positions. If you think back to when you were in that really dark place, before youd discovered the ways you could use humour to cope, how do you think you would have felt if somebody had made jokes about suicide or depression? These are very sensitive topics and of course when were in such a dark place it really can be just the tiniest thing that tips us over the edge. Personally, I think its unlikely that the guidelines will be loosened simply because of the possible severe backlash the admin would face... Their aim is to provide a space that is safe for everyone and now understanding where youre coming from I am really sorry that as a result of losing people you dont feel so safe here; I can imagine that if there are a group of you then of course youd want to be altogether in a group chat and it must be frustrating that there isnt some kind of option to have a private group where you can share your jokes without risking upsetting or intimidating other users in the room frown Unfortunately the only thing I can suggest is trying to keep these sorts of conversations 1-1, or you could try making your own thread maybe titled ‘private thread tw and tagging the people you enjoy chatting with so you could then have a space for your jokes. Of course if you were to consider that it would probably be worth messaging one of the admin first and finding out if that would be a safe option for you.

"I disagree, everyone is fundamentally different and don't need to be infantilized to the degree that this website does to make you feel safe, it's uncomfortable and doesn't make people stronger, it makes them weaker, because it doesn't prepare them to survive in a world that's unfair, it creates a bubble mentality where they constantly HAVE to feel safe, that's not healthy, that's really really unhealthy and leads people down a dark path, i believe that we need something like the guidelines for structure, but it appears the guidelines are used to protect people from non-issues, i once saw a girl get muted and then banned for talking about her period, is that how sensitive you want people to be? sensitivities isn't something we should just accept like it's okay, sensitivities is something to be challenged and overcome."

This is true of course, not everybody has to be treated in this way, but there are some people who do and we cant always know for sure who those individuals are before really getting to know them. Taking people with DID, or anybody who experiences age regression for whatever reason, often they will need that extra TLC and gentle approach - one comment that doesn't sit well with somebody could so easily put them off finding any more support here. I can totally understand why you would think this would make people weaker, but sometimes when traumatic memories resurface then the regression and having that almost ‘motherly support is a part of the recovery process… Id never actually admitted because Ive always felt really weird and embarrassed about it, but that was a part of the process for me in the first 4 months, and it seemed to be an important stage because the stuff happened when I was a small child. As a result, I dont think it made me weaker at all - having been exposed to things I shouldnt have at that age, it seemed that everywhere I turned there were constant reminders, but I knew that around here the chances of seeing something which would cause me distress were very slim, so this became my world for several months, gradually helping me to work through things and get back to where I needed to be - so I went from essentially spending a year in bed hiding away to now being back in education studying psychology and finally overcame the anxiety holding me back from seeking therapy for what happened. I know it probably sounds overly dramatic, but I honestly believe that if this place hadnt been available to me in the sensitive way that it was, I would either be in a hospital by now or wouldnt be here at all. Sorry Ive rambled on a lot about myself, but of course we can only really give our own experiences as examples huh! I am extremely surprised that somebody got muted for talking about menstruation though (well - I suppose it depends on the context or how explicit it was...), I dont generally use the group chats so I dont know what its like these days, but for a long time there does seem to have been some talk about some abuse of power which is a real shame, but also has nothing to do with the guidelines and is down to the individual.

"I think it's always condescending to assume that people will just be outright offended when someone makes a joke, i've met a lot of people here who i wouldn't hesitate to call friends, some of which are gay, they make even worse jokes then me and back in the day it almost became a competition in grossing each other out (between me and them,) also my family has a great sense of humor and doesn't care about the things i say, whether they are online or offline, human relationships go deeper than the things said on the surface, if you're willing to throw away a friendship, or a family member because they've made a joke with content you disagree with, how much did you in actuality love and respect that person? as for the person you mentioned, she needs to hang out with a different crowd of people, i'd probably be friends with her if i knew her, because i'm not one to throw my own under the bus, as for jokes not being funny for being used too much, i agree, which is why i switch it up from time to time, also due to some of my mental disorders, i'm probably also part of one of these "marginalised" communities, but i simply just don't care, as i despise groupthink and think individual rights are way more important, also "internalised oppression", really? i do not care about people being triggered, people's feelings or sexuality are not my responsibility, it's theirs."

I guess well have to agree to disagree there, I would often see it as simply being respectful but do love a bit of banter once I can see the other persons position on it. Its great that you have this friend who youre able to have so much fun with, and yes a lot of people do also joke about parts of their identity which can definitely ease any tension, though can also be one of those things which is tough to know the boundaries with so I would think its often best to let people lead the way initially with humour which might be offensive to them. It is easy to assume that people are fine with comments or jokes, but I know that in the past Ive laughed along with things which have made me incredibly uncomfortable and totally knocked my confidence because they have been things which affect me and which Id never had the courage to open up to anyone about, in fear that they held the same views. Of course I dont know your family, but it is one of those things to keep in mind - we never know a person's full story. The situation with the girl who was a very close friend of mine was not a case of just throwing away a friendship over a few comments; it was much more cumulative and honestly it is really sad to see that she works though friends so quickly - yes she still occasionally meets up with us and were all civil and awkwardly pretend everythings fine, but although she is very ignorant and disrespectful with many topics, I do still care about her and wish things could be fixed because I know that shes not in the best place.

Yes, internalised oppression is something a lot of people face, often without even realising it. I am again somewhat confused that youre now saying that you dont care about people being triggered, about their feelings and so on - so where does the i personally think we've ought to step outside ourselves, to become selfless and caring, honest, empathetic, sympathetic, understanding, intelligent and down to earth. come in?

"I've never said it makes me unhappy when a joke backfires, as i've already mentioned, people are individually different, it would be foolish to assume that everyone finds my sense of humor appealing, but that is why you have to try it out in different communities, to expose people to things they may like, or dislike. it is how you discover things about yourself which is an important part of personal growth, i mean it's great to be understood and all but i prefer when there is a difference in opinion, also i hate when people say "studies have shown ..." okay? what studies, give me links or something, back it up, because humor is again, very individual and subjective, i find both types of humor appealing, i love self-deprecating humor, but i also love watching roasts for instance, or heck, even GETTING roasted, it's how i've led most of my teenage life to my now - adult life and i couldn't be happier with myself, i'm not perfect, but i'm getting to a place where i'm comfortable in my own skin, and i couldn't have done it without other people disagreeing with me, or critique, or people helping me along the way and getting to know me - but i'm not going to change my sense of humor for the sake of someone else's sensebilities, that's ridiculous, in most situations they wouldn't change their moral code for the sake of my "sensibilities" whatever they may be and i believe they should be able to say whatever they want to say anyway."

Ahh ok, my mistake - generally when people say they go through issues constantly with something related to themself, I interpret that as meaning negative personal struggles. Admittedly I started writing my response to you a few days back so I dont know if I can remember the papers I was referring to, but Ill drop some sources at the end of this post if I can find them. Ive also just come across this website which you might like, it looks pretty interesting smiley

I do think its important to recognise however that ‘roasting is very different from making ignorant jokes about a personal/misunderstood issue which a person may have heard hundreds of times before. I totally agree that watching roasts can be great, but bear in mind that these are generally situations where people have signed up for it. As youve said, everyones sense of humour is different and whilst there is no harm in making adaptive jokes to somebody who has no interest in them, there can be significant damage done when maladaptive jokes are made at an individual or audience who you havent taken the time to figure out where they stand on this and may be more sensitive - often when people are more interested in maladaptive humour they begin with self-deprecating humour which can help to gauge where others stand. Generally people whove experienced trauma for example, will know what they like or dislike - they dont again have to be exposed to tasteless r**e ‘jokes to know that they cant cope with that. Similarly, trans people dont need to have jokes made about identifying as objects or animals in order to know that thats simple ignorance and lack of understanding to the struggles that come with gender incongruence. My sister's autistic and doesn't understand any kinds of jokes at all, so she'll get very distressed if something is said sarcastically or in a teasing way because she doesn't realise that we don't mean it even if to everybody else it seems blatantly obvious. Yes I agree that being exposed to things is a part of growing, however the entire internet is here to expose us to all kinds of things and just as it may not be your responsibility to handle people's feelings, its not your responsibility to expose them to potentially upsetting things either - there is an entire world out there for that!

Were all free to express whatever we like elsewhere - but there is an appropriate time and place.

"So for instance, are the people who get up and report an employee for an "offensive" joke, gets them fired and homeless on the street, couragous and brave? or people who join neo-marxist anarcho communist movements like Antifa, beat up old people, and slam bike locks into people's heads and nearly kill them, whilst they go home and spam the #metoo hashtag or talk about how uncomfortable they are with todays language or that someone's pronouns aren't respected? or how they flood to someone's blog to bully and guilt trip them to the point of attempted suicide, it's laughable what counts as "couragous" nowadays, is this antisocial, narcissistic, (borderline-)psychotic behavior something we really ought to feed? maybe these aren't the social pirhanas you have in mind, but they sure seem to share a lot of the same buzzwords."

To be honest Im not sure what youre trying to get at with these absurd and mostly extremist examples since this isn't about external politics, and certainly not to do with violence, but anyway. I would say good for them for reporting it - what comes out of other peoples mouths is not their responsibility, and the consequences they face as a result isnt the reporters fault either. We have to take responsibility for our own actions and a part of that is knowing the guidelines, whether thats here, in university, in a job… Just about everywhere will have them. Bullying and violence is extremely weak - theres nothing more I have to say about that. It takes a hell of a lot of courage to come forward about abuse, and respecting peoples pronouns really isnt that difficult - simply making the effort is massively appreciated. Im not sure why youve linked the latter comments with violence, obviously theyre very independent things.

"I agree, but that's no reason to stop, we have to condition ourselves not to care, we have really big problems out there, and it isn't what kind of "offensive" language you're using, also, no, the point of what i'm saying ISN'T just the offensive or impactful words used, it's the whole message that matters, if people stopped caring about swearwords, the only thing i would utter would be something like "oh cool, we can all stand on the same ground without wanting to kill each other over meaningless words that we've somehow decided to give an incredible amount of power to, neat.""

Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that you have to stop using the language or making the jokes that you do - I mean I can't tell you to stop anywhere, obviously its all up do you, but this is mainly focussing on the use of this language/comments on 7cups. Im not sure we ever decide to give words power, but rather that seems to be the whole purpose of language - to get across points, to make an impact, to get a job done… On one hand I really do see where youre coming from and I would love to not care about a tonne of things that people say, but I do not believe its healthy to try desensitising yourself or conditioning yourself in such a way - I say that having spent a long time addicted to that app I mentioned. Personally I hate it, I find it an awfully toxic place but I would use that in an attempt to get used to the awful things people say and to stop caring. Quite the opposite happened; rather than stopping caring if it taught me anything, it was that (a) exposing yourself to such negativity and blatant ignorance takes a toll on both mental and physical health, and just like other forms of self harm this exposure does indeed become addictive; and (b) when its something that is so deeply personal, that youve had to fight tirelessly through and people are continuously making uneducated comments or jokes about it, you dont get used to it - you get fed up, stand up for yourself and educate them.

When it comes to swearing in many cases I do agree, it can be really beneficial for letting off steam or coping with pain - personally I have no problem with it (unless its being used to harass somebody) however I am aware that although these days it may seem ridiculous, a lot of parents are still protective of the language their children are exposed to and so (a) this might be one reason excessive swearing isnt allowed here; and (b) this may well also be why some adults are more sensitive to the language people use. It is a difficult one, and I think some swearing is allowed in the forums so long as its not excessive, but I guess with the chats its easier to just have words automatically censored than try to set up something that somehow measures excessive-ness, context and so on!

Here are a few of the papers I'd seen earlier - there was I think another one or two but I can't for the life of me find them again!

@AMusicalSilence I'm kind of sleep-deprived while writing this, so excuse any grammatical errors or things that simply don't string together to make any sense. 🙃

"Ahh I think I see where youre coming from. Of course if you were to consider that it would probably be worth messaging one of the admin first and finding out if that would be a safe option for you."

Despite what i may have made it sound like, those people i befriended are doing just fine offsite (i mean, they're really god damn irked that their accounts have been banned), because, believe me no one respects that rule, no one. that also goes for the admins themselves, but i probably shouldn't fling out all the dirty laundry of old-school cups in a public forum post lest i want to be chased away with lit torches and pitchforks, lol, anyway, i've always had a way of coping with my mental disorders through comedy/jokes, there wasn't really a "before i discovered" it was always there, since my parents were both into stand-up comedy and would usually rent stand-up specials on VHS tapes when i was little, it's what i grew up on, basically what i'm saying is, when i got my first computer of my very own and entered the magical world of the internet, i was more amazed than appalled when people said ridiculously offensive things, and that's how i've always treated it, if there was things that hurt me, it would be things that pretty much hurts any living human being despite how thick their skin is, like having rumors started, or being betrayed, things that harm you on a deep psychological level, maybe i am simply just different from everyone else, but words simply do not harm me, also the admins facing backlash from loosing up on the guidelines? i mean, as far as i know, the guidelines is one of the main things that cause harm to people here, it is the number one threat, if anything they wold be celebrated for actually listening to real feedback on the website for once, you know, unlike things that do not matter, like adding animal icons next to our names (even though it's optional, but still, don't come and tell me this doesn't start looking like a care center for children at times)

Also making a private thread to respond in is kind of pointless considering we're talking about instant messaging AKA group chats, can you imagine the chaos of having about 6400 comments in a thread by the end of the day? also, this isn't really just "jokes", it is just people's personalities, it's their behavior, who they are, you find them funny because they are relateable, because of the things they've gone through, probably should have included that in my original response, but i hope you see what i mean.

"This is true of course, not everybody has to be treated in this way, but there are some people who do and we cant always know for sure who those individuals are before really getting to know them. I am extremely surprised that somebody got muted for talking about menstruation though (well - I suppose it depends on the context or how explicit it was...), I dont generally use the group chats so I dont know what its like these days, but for a long time there does seem to have been some talk about some abuse of power which is a real shame, but also has nothing to do with the guidelines and is down to the individual."

You have my condolences for what happened to you, i'm truly sorry, you shouldn't have been through all that drama, (congratulations on getting back into studying though! 👍) that being said, instead of seeing the things that harms us as threats, we should see them as opportunities to grow stronger, again, as challenges to be overcome, for some it wont be easy, but as long as you keep trying, you will get there, the amount of mud i've been trudging through in life should have made me sink and drown at this point (i'm not going to tell my entire life story in public as i consider it very personal), but you've got to be a struggler, someone that keeps walking through - for a lack of a better word, whatever shït comes your way and tries keeping you down, maybe this website is enough for some people to claim back their sanity, but i believe that unless you face the demons that keep you a prisoner by yourself, you'll never be free, it is perhaps the most terrifying thing you'll do in your life, but you don't need this website to do so, this website is younger than the centuries of people who have prevailed their disorders and disabilities, working on self-reliance is a very benefitial thing, although getting help from friends and family will most certainly boost your confidence.

And yes, unfortunately certain mods, individuals if you like, have been missusing their power but without punishment from the mentors and admins, i do NOT believe it is down to guidelines, it is simply a gross overuse of the power certain mods have been given.

Yes, internalised oppression is something a lot of people face, often without even realising it. I am again somewhat confused that youre now saying that you dont care about people being triggered, about their feelings and so on - so where does the i personally think we've ought to step outside ourselves, to become selfless and caring, honest, empathetic, sympathetic, understanding, intelligent and down to earth. come in?"

You may have already discovered through our previous encounters that i'm a tad bit of a risk taker, i say things that are very sarcastic, sometimes the sarcasm is lost on people, luckily i've found it's very common for people to pick up on the sarcasm rather than not, instead we simply just don't agree with each other and there's a lot of tension.at times, but that's okay and is expected, glad you're still friends with that girl though, that statement i made was more generally speaking and not about the situation with the girl, hopefully her situation brightens up and she can lead a better life, i don't know the gravity of whatever comments she has made, so i can only hope for her improvement.

As for my comment about becoming "selfless and caring, honest, empathetic, sympathetic, understanding, intelligent and down to earth." i think that applies that people that actually want to be helped and want to help, when you mentioned internalised oppression i was referring to SocJus warriors that are professional, and dishonest manipulators and most importantly infiltrators in communities where people do actually suffer, they become very good at being "victims" and distorts/askews reality to fit their point of view, this in turn harms the people that wants real help, want to improve their situation, and doesn't want society changed for a small minority's sake to disadvantage the rest of the population, maybe for some it is difficult to see the difference between the two, but the difference is glaringly obvious once you see it.

Not sure how active you are on YouTube, but i suggest following people there instead of traditional media (as either side of the political spectrum are filled to the brim with liars), and you might see how life is for your average person when they're accused of "internalised oppression".

First of all, clicked on the website, and perhaps it's ignorant of me to just close it after reading the opening paragraph, but there is no guidebook to humor, or how we should use it, it should come naturally, i realize you didn't write this article so you're not at fault, but still, haha.

Secondly, i agree, but then there's a paradox for me, since i both believe there is such a thing as maladaptive jokes, and then there aren't, it comes down to knowing your environment, and i usually start a conversation by trying to be funny, if it fails, so be it, i just go into a neutral position and talk normally, also if offense is caused, i refuse to apologise because i mean what i say, if i didn't mean anything by it, why say it in the first place? you can't know what people have been through, they don't have to be exposed to it, but they do, and they will, if not here, somewhere else, maybe that increases the argument that this "should be a safe space", but i disagree, if people constantly spoke to me in a careful tone, as if i am a child, i would be properly annoyed, maybe that is even why therapy didn't work for me, i am a realist, not an idealist, but now i'm just derailing a bit.

Hmm, it might not be my responsibility to expose people to things they might find upsetting, but that's not really going to change, it's just how i run my life, and i'm unnable to change it because it is what i find most comfortable - being myself.
and as the world will expose you to things that are way worse (in my opinion) i don't see the issue, let me make this clear, i don't go out to INTENTIONALLY hurt people, to quote Ricky Gervais "Offense is taken, not given."

I don't mind sharing a tiny bit about myself because this is already public knowledge in the circles i frequent anyway, but i'm like your sister, part of the autism spectrum, i have Asperger, which means that i am highly functioning, as the state suggests, i am for the most part just like any other person, i just struggle a huge amount with socializing, and things related to communication, although this can also be different when it goes from person-to-person, so my diagnosis is probably very much different than someone else with asperger, they will more than likely still struggle with a lot of the same things, but there might be added complications, i personally tell people i'm lucky as i got my diagnosis as an adult, and not as a child, some might thing that is horrifying, not knowing what is wrong with you for all those years, but that simply meant i was treated just like everyone else, and i manage to fit into society much easier as a result, this has also resulted in my strong critique of raising children to BE children, instead of raising children to BE adults, as that is the prefered method of treating human beings in the culture we currently find ourselves inhabiting, anyhow, good luck to your sister, i'm probably very different to her, but i know the difficulties the autism spectrum comes with.

To be fair i've been exposed to too much drama recently, maybe i'm a tad bit paranoid about the current state of the world, but i think rightfully so, if you haven't been following what's being going on the last few years it might be hard to understand, perhaps? i do however, as suggested in my previous responses in this post believe this is most certainly linked to SocJus.

Really though? you think it's okay for people to lose their jobs over inoffensive jokes? this isn't always cases of something being said at a workplace by the way, i'm talking about something someone tweeted out in their private life, what happens when everything becomes offensive to everyone? can i report someone FOR reporting someone because it makes me uncomfortable? will then then two people lose their job? it might seem extreme to you, but this is the thin line we're actually stepping on, no, really.

As for pronouns, well, i simply don't think any government, or entity should be able to tell me how to speak, if i choose to define people as she, he, it, those three, then that should be fine, as i personally believe it doesn't go beyond those three, it's anti-science, unlike what gender professors may suggest during a gender studies class, we are NOT born as blank slates whom society chooses the gender pronoun for, it is not a social construct and they undermine the complexity of the human brain and how it evolved. male and female brains are different, it is a scientific fact, you can be a man, a woman, or a transgender man, or a transgender woman, and that is it, i have no idea how many people are going to flood me with hatemail for pointing out that as a fact, and that is why i refuse to use specialized gender pronouns like "zie" or "ze" or "xe" and "xem" for instance.

Hey, thanks for posting the sources you read! that's actually greatly appreciated, in most debate settings most people would just tuck their tail between their legs and back away or go "look it up yourself!", so this is respectable, and you're right, i'm going straight back to using the same language, and to go about my life the same way i always has, as you said, you can't stop me, and nor do i want to stop you from living your life, using language the way you want to use it, as for how you used that App, that does sound rather tough, now this might sound like an insult to you, i don't really know how to describe it any other way, but you sound like a 'normie', see i'm used to people being toxic, posting memes, joking about serious things, that's how i grew up on the internet, but from the sound of it, you didn't, so it is strange to you how people could be so toxic, the worst thing you could possibly do is try to educate people in that state of mind, as it isn't like they don't understand that what they're doing is wrong, they know it's wrong, it's why they do it and doesn't make a big deal out of it, again i don't know the gravity of what they are saying, but knowing the internet, and this place pretty much, i do have an idea.

Anyways i hope that was structurally cohesive enough to understand, i'm gonna go sleep now, so i'll repond to your reply later if you'll make one, if not, thanks for the effort put into your post.

@PerpetuallyKekastrophic

Im going to try keeping this short because I can see that youre pretty set and although Im glad that weve had this discussion and Ive been able to get a better understanding of where youre coming from, I guess its down to ‘will you change or will the guidelines change which probably makes this conversation between you and me rather pointless! Anyway, Im glad those people are doing ok, I guess the only question that brings up is if youre all in contact elsewhere, why not have a private group chat in those locations rather than in areas where there will be people who are more vulnerable, and then use 7cups for the purpose of finding (or providing) emotional support?

It is great that you dont get hurt by the things people say, and maybe it makes no difference what it comes down to, but lets hypothesise that this lack of adverse emotional response to comments is down to your Aspergers; my grandfather also discovered he has it just recently, and in many ways it is an amazing strength, but indeed leads to some social difficulties. However its also important to remember that what youre able to do, the effects it has on you and the way your brain works, other people may not be able to achieve so easily. I hope that makes sense, basically what Im suggesting is that this unique way that you see the world is clearly very accessible to you, its just who you are, but you cannot expect everybody else to feel or respond in the same ways - to not be affected by comments or language, its simply not something we have absolute control over because its not something we make conscious decisions about.

I agree that at times the guidelines may be problematic, I guess its the same with everything - nothing can be perfect when theres the need to take every person into consideration.

I agree, and I find myself saying the same thing to people - it wont be easy but youll get there. The trouble is, if youre hit with something so psychologically traumatic then there is no thinking rationally or taking control - if there was then PTSD surely wouldnt exist! And yes, in the end it is important to face your demons yourself, however that isnt the first step to recovering. I mean again with what I went through, it took me a month of trying to work through it alone before reaching out to somebody because things just got worse and worse. We could compare some mental illnesses or responses to trauma to say losing your leg in a freak accident - the first step (no pun intended) would be going to a hospital and getting fixed up, then possibly physiotherapy to learn to walk with a prosthetic, but after that its down to you to carry on learning to re-adjust to your own life. As we both mentioned before, for some people this website is all the support they have - and in many cases it is absolutely life saving. Maybe over time society is becoming more sensitive, and there will be pros and cons to that - the pros being more awareness, compassion and understanding, the cons being more expectation of others to be automatically accommodating to your needs.

To clarify, when I talk about internalised oppression, I certainly wouldnt accuse anybody of it, because its not something that were in control of - it results from the way we were brought up, for example a gay person who was brought up in an evangelical household might try to ignore the fact that theyre gay, hate themselves for it, or as youre probably aware in the trans community especially, resort to suicide because theyre unable to see any way of living happily and authentically. I cant say I know anything about SJW stuff, I think its generally pretty obvious when extreme beliefs are presented and these are simply ignored. The trouble is, when we talk about people who really want help, this will mean different things for different people - again taking a gay person for example, help for one gay person (in this case who experiences internalised oppression) might initially be considered conversion therapy, whereas help for another gay person will be finding self acceptance. It really all comes down to being compassionate to every single individuals circumstances, not creating some hierarchy based on what is ‘normal.

Oops, sorry I didnt mean the article I meant the whole website might be one you could find interesting.

Ahh yes, I dont think anybody is too content with the current state of the world, whichever side youre looking at it from. Inoffensive jokes? No, inappropriate jokes or comments? So long as the guidelines have been provided, its up to the individual to take responsibility for their actions or comments. Of course when things get dug up from years ago on someone's twitter and they lose their job as a result, thats different - but the chances are it all depends on how they choose to handle the situation, if they choose to apologise or continue to hold the same views, in which case it becomes a current issue.

I can totally understand people finding uncommon pronouns difficult, but ‘they is something weve always used, not only as a plural (eg. you see somebody driving poorly without seeing the person - theyre an awful driver) and isnt so difficult to learn to use - if youve been able to use ‘it to describe a person, you should have no problem using ‘they seeing as it's something you already use to refer to people, whereas 'it' is simply dehumanising. It really is just simple respect, like learning somebodys name. It is interesting what you say about the brain - Ive also been quite hopeful about these studies and its great that youve done that research and recognise this, but have you considered the possibility that the reason we see differences between male/female brains is because of how we are brought up so differently? The way society treats boys and girls so differently? The brain is a unisex organ, we have all the same parts just with different patterns and sizes, and these will vary between every single person (ie. there will still be anomalies where say a cis womans brain is closer to that of a cis man), but there is no denying that people are socialised very differently depending on their assigned genders and there is really no way of knowing whether this is the cause of these brain differences unless the world were to scrap every gender stereotype and essentially become gender neutral, treating every person exactly the same, using the same language for each person, exposing them to the same things, no ‘boys toys ‘girls toys or gender-focussed advertising and so on. There are too many variables to know for sure the cause of these differences and as far as Im aware, there havent been any large scale studies on the brain structures/patterns of those who identify outside of the binary.

When I talk about people being toxic, I generally mean outright hate or disrespect - not jokes or memes, but completely heartless comments made with the intention to harm people. For example, I would receive messages in that app from people telling me that Im a ‘disgusting freak and should kill myself - I dont know about you, but I struggle to see the humour there. There have actually been a fair few cases where I was able to help people to understand and they were very grateful, but indeed many people simply couldnt care less about the damage they do. Anywho, I guess Im going to leave it there and bid you farewell (at least for now, if you respond with anything that seems to need addressing then Ill try to respond next weekend but Im pretty snowed under with work at the moment), hopefully you will consider a few of the things mentioned and keep them in mind but it sounds as though youre pretty set in your ways. Either way, I hope that youre able to continue finding good support here smiley

I assume this'll be your last reply at this point, yet again, thanks for partaking of this very important conversation, hearing different voices in his debate was one of my goals, now unto responding to some of the last questions, and just like you i'll try to keep this short, although it probably wont be, also sorry if some of these things don't make any sense, it's hard to wake up and respond to something when you remember just dreaming about Jake Paul being eaten by a pack of tigers. (lol)

"Anyway, Im glad those people are doing ok, I guess the only question that brings up is if youre all in contact elsewhere, why not have a private group chat in those locations rather than in areas where there will be people who are more vulnerable, and then use 7cups for the purpose of finding (or providing) emotional support?"

Good idea in theory, except for the fact that a lot of the people in groups outside of 7cups are banned to begin with, otherwise it would probably work out, they could probably get unbanned by messaging one of the admins, but knowing this procedure myself, it can go either way, and sometimes you have to go about getting a VPN, making a new account, and pretend you don't know anyone for a while, and to be honest that process is too tedious for most people to go through.

"It is great that you dont get hurt by the things people say, and maybe it makes no difference what it comes down to, but lets hypothesise that this lack of adverse emotional response to comments is down to your Aspergers; my grandfather also discovered he has it just recently, and in many ways it is an amazing strength, but indeed leads to some social difficulties. Could be, but believe it or not, i used to be really hyper sensitive when i was a teenager, if i hadn't walked down a certain path i could easily have fallen into the trap of the SJW's, which i'm very lucky i didn't, i grew up working hard and wiping the blood and sweat from my brow instead, and it hardened me as a person, i stopped listening to the voices around me and instead focused on what i needed to do, but i wouldn't be surprised if Asperger had something to do with it, as people with my condition has been known to a lot of times have a higher pain tolerance in general, but even though that is the way my life works, i would still believe that people could be strong enough to work on themselves, to be more immune to bad things being said or done unto them, it could only strengthen us as a people and put focus on things that really matter instead of all these non-issues as i see them, but, as you mentioned earlier, this is turning into a "either the guidelines or i have to change" type of conversation and it'll only go in a circular motion untill we get back where we started, i obviously know not everyone is the same, some people ARE weaker and probably wont ever be able to tolerate behavior different to theirs that they might see as potentially dangerous to themselves, this is a complex issue, i do believe we should do a degree protect sensitive people, but at the same time it shouldn't stifle freedom of speech or expression in any form (as long as it doesn't break any laws, obviously.)

"I agree that at times the guidelines may be problematic, I guess its the same with everything - nothing can be perfect when theres the need to take every person into consideration."

I agree, i would add that i believe it's impossible to make 7cups an available cure for all people, of all walks of life, it is simply impossible, as i see everyone as unequal, we are simply all too unique and have different needs, especially when it comes to complex mental disorders and disabilities, if this was a perfect world, we'd have individual rights, and everyone could be treated fairly based on their condition, however this wont ever come to throughition on a website like this, they simply do not have a strong enough number of volunteers motivated enough to do different things for different people at all times, it's easier to follow a simple structure with the rules accounting for everyone, to follow the same directions no matter who you're dealing with.

I don't have much to say about your next paragraph about working on yourself, i agree entirely, but i also think that most people already know in most cases what they need to do to get better, it's just hard to admit it to yourself at times.

"To clarify, when I talk about internalised oppression, I certainly wouldnt accuse anybody of it, because its not something that were in control of - it results from the way we were brought up, for example a gay person who was brought up in an evangelical household might try to ignore the fact that theyre gay, hate themselves for it, or as youre probably aware in the trans community especially, resort to suicide because theyre unable to see any way of living happily and authentically. Again there isn't much here that i disagree with in theory, but i still have a lot of distain for the term "internalised oppression" because of how it's used in the media and smear campaigns, also if you'd like to know more about the type of SJW ideologies i'm talking about, i'd suggest looking up two very 'beginner friendly' YouTuber's when it comes to these types of topics, the first being Chris Ray Gun, the second being Sargon of Akkad, try to watch some of their videos with zero expectations, and you may find that you like what you see and hear, i'll include some links at the bottom if that helps.

"Oops, sorry I didnt mean the article I meant the whole website might be one you could find interesting."

That's okay, i don't need the website nor their ethics anyhow, thanks but no thanks, i think i'll just stick to my comedy specials :P

"Ahh yes, I dont think anybody is too content with the current state of the world, whichever side youre looking at it from. Inoffensive jokes? No, inappropriate jokes or comments? I agree that it depends on the rules of the organization and their policies, but if they don't have any such guidelines, nor any rules about jokes or certain behaviors, i still don't get why one would be fired and have their life ruined for something that could be so easily ignored by the offended, personally i get very sad when i hear news of people being fired for such 'offenses'.

One example that happened a few years ago that still pisses me off to no end is this one: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/03/how-dongle-jokes-got-two-people-fired-and-led-to-ddos-attacks/

None of that drama needed to happen if she had simply ignored the jokes and moved on with her life, but i digress.

Also again, not going to touch upon your comments about pronouns as i've already stated my opinion, i also listen to a lot of Jordan Peterson when it comes to the subject, if that makes it more clear about my stance on the issue, also i want to keep this as short as possible as stated above.

"When I talk about people being toxic, I generally mean outright hate or disrespect - not jokes or memes, but completely heartless comments made with the intention to harm people. I've had similar comments made about me and that i'm a "fücking retard" because of my mental condition, as well as every other slur in the book, as you probably expect, i don't really care about the slurs people throw my way, but i agree, there is no humor there, it's usually third party trolls who are miserable, i've had a small chance sometimes of actually conversing with people like that, to actually listen and understand them, some of which are my friends now, it comes down to understanding each other, in my opinion, as i see no people (unless they are malignant psychopaths, or sociopaths) - as bad people, i always find it interesting when people want to see the world burn and attacks everyone around them, i always want to question each person about how they got there, it's endlessly fascinating, anyhow as you just stated, i'm pretty much set in my way, i haven't missed out on the things you mentioned as i hear similar things constantly, but i don't see you as having bad intentions, perhaps a little naive in places, but still, good on you, as promised i'll give you some youtube links, and then i'll bid you farewell and good luck untill you respond again, and if not, thank you 😁.
