Too many limitations

I noticed that you are only allowed 5 attempts at contacting an available listener and have to wait 24 hours before you can contact another listener. I'm guessing that is put in place to prevent "spamming" but the problem is that most of them either leave in the middle of a chat or don't reply to you. And this is when the listeners are in available mode. And now, if I need to find another listener, I can no longer do that because I've reached the max number of times allowed to find someone else and have to wait 24 hours before I try it again.

This is really inconvenient when I need to continue to look for someone and can't. Now I have to wait until the next day. This doesn't help me right now.

I wasn't aware of having to wait when needs may warrant help quickly. I hope by now you've found a listener one that is proving to be helpful.

@pianist4life Yes, it was put in place to prevent misuse by just a few members, but it was never a good solution because of the impact on members like you who are genuinely trying to chat.

In theory you should be able to use Browse Listeners to choose an experienced listener who has a Chat Now button, and an experienced listener is not so likely to let you down. But if any listener does let you down, it's important to report the listener so they can get help from a mentor.

There have been some efforts to improve listener quality, but unfortunately they haven't been very serious and they haven't been very successful.

@RarelyCharlie

well "in theory" suggest that things should work out in a so-called "perfect world". It just never ceases to amaze me how so many unqualified, immature, bratty, cowardly, selfish, and completely ungenuine people can call themselves "listeners".

Oh sure, I can hear all their lame excuses for why they behave and act the way they do:

"Well, I have problems too!" (really? stop the presses so we can all coddle you!)

"I'm trying to talk to several members right now." (chronic multi-tasking is worst than any illicit drug)

"Sorry, I'm at work. Talk to you later." (and their status is green/available)

"I can't help you with that issue." (and they brag how great they are at that issue in their profiles)

"Here's some advice for you..." (ugh, why do listeners give advice?? It's worthless and comical)

"Hello, how are you?" (and then they suddenly disappear into an unknown vortex never to be seen again)

And it goes on and on and on.

I don't come to this forum looking for empathy or apologies for my plights. I come here wanting to fix these things and find actual solutions, not "looking for other listeners" or some other "soft sell advice". All that does is placate a member into a false sense of security that someone really does care. It's as old as time.

So what will it be? Tell me that if this is not for me, go look elsewhere? Or do we actually try to find real solutions without the infinite refuse of meaningless "promises"?

Nevermind. No one has to answer that. Go back to sleep and sorry for disturbing everyone!

@pianist4life

I am sorry that you are having so much trouble finding someone to listen to you. It seems like you are very frustrated and that your needs are not being met. I understand how it feels not to be listened to. If you would like to schedule a time, message me to set up a designated time. I would be honored to listen, and it could be a time just for you. In the meantime, have a great day or night!
