Hello everyone, and welcome to part 1 of our 7-part 7 Cups Values Series!

Our community is built on a set of core values. They act as our foundation, guiding how we support each other, how we grow, and how we keep this space safe and welcoming.

Instead of just reading, we want to practice these values with you. Every week for the next 7 weeks, we will explore a different 7 Cups value. We’ll share stories, try small challenges, and connect over what makes this community work.

🍵 Week 1 Value: Your Work Saves Lives. At 7 Cups, this means working with purpose and stepping up to help others. Saving a life sounds like a massive undertaking, but here in our community, it is often found in simple, steady acts of support. Sometimes, an active listener, a kind word, or the gift of someone's company can be a lifeline to someone in need.

💙 This Week's Prompt: Let’s talk about the impact of small acts of care. Share a time when someone else’s simple act of kindness or support changed your day, or share how you try to bring a sense of purpose to the way you help others.

I always try to put my self any other person's view when I'm listening. I feel like by doing that I can kind of understand more where they're coming from about things and having more open mind to be there to listen to whatever they want to talk about!

I like the wording of simple and steady acts of support!

Onto the prompt: I had messaged a friend of mine and he asked me what happened and "do you wanna talk about it?"

I was like can I?? and if he has time. He said yeah and I can just send him voice notes (which I didn't think about). I think him giving me permission to let me talk and ask me about it felt so comforting.

I usually can talk a lot so being given the permission especially about something that is vulnerable comforted me. I usually ask people if they wanna talk about it more and try to ask them more.

I also try to keep checking-in with people even when the main peaks of stress has passed. As we still are impacted by the deep pain that even when the situation has passed we still think about it often even months later.

Share a time when someone else’s simple act of kindness or support changed your day

When I was in mental health treatment in 2023, my best friend secretly formed a fundme account for me, went to all of my friends on social media and passed along the link. She made it to support me with medication and miscellaneous needs I had while I was there. My friends were all so supportive I cried for days. Then every other week while I was there, I received a big box of various goodies from her. Some makeup, some crafty stuff, some funny pictures and stickers, pictures of her cats to cheer me up. For those four months, she completely cared for me and made sure I stayed positive and happy during that major change. People like that change your day and they change your lives. It's so simple to just be there for someone, and to make sure they know that you truly care, but it means sooo much. Sometimes I don't know if we know just how much.

For the last 5 or so months I’ve been away from my legal residence helping my parents and my uncle through some medical issues. The trash is picked up on Wednesday mornings from the end of the driveway. We don’t know the name of the Waste Management employee, however his kindness of taking the trash can back to the top of the driveway has been a special gift to us. This meant we didn’t have to worry about bringing the can in after dark when we would arrive back from the hospital or rehab center visiting my mother.
