Let's all try respond posts that are new Community forums
I know it's difficult we all have time constraints. As often as I can, I come here and look for the posts that need a reply. I am very much guilty I'll not being able to do that as regularly as I would like.
Responding to one of these posts doesn't have to mean you understand all the ramifications. Often,People just want to be heard and acknowledged.
Even if you have nothing in particular, to say to the person posting, I'm sure the person wouldn't appreciate that you didn't knowledge how dare you pain.
Often I will use that it helps just to know someone is reading your post realizes that they are pain.
Might I suggest that as often as they can we take a look at the pose need reply and please say, "I hear you and acknowledge you". Sometimes that makes the world of difference.
This is all just my $.02. Take it for what it's worth.
@JeffWM
Awesome post! I think this is a great idea and that we should all try to respond to as many posts as we can. A reply can go a long way, even an upvote goes somewhere.
I think @Laura should hear about this because maybe she can make it official !
I think that in my (pointed little) mind, people just want to hear, "I understand you are in pain"-- and BTW, you can fin help and you are wonderful and cared for and acknowledged.
Personally, I'm all for pointing out, that you should look at only one issue at a time, and consider different options. Even if I were a therapist, without more background information and knowing the conversation would be regularly revisited, reorganized, and reevaluated, I'd be reluctant to give my advice; I'd rather point out options.
@JeffWM
I've seen something like this on reddit before and I still think it is a great idea. While some people may not have the time to post a full response, just upvotes also help as Roadie says here . You make some great points here so thank you for taking the time to write this up. :)
I am still quite saddened that my broken wrist seems to nee to be in a custom molded brace (which completely encompasses my thumb and goes up mid-way to my elbow, for at least 6 weeks; that'll be 278 days at the earliest).ˆI can only type minimally with my non-dominant hand. After that long, I'm not sure how long I'll need physical therapy until I can type proficiently. I wish I could at least acknowledge some more of the new posts.
Maybe I was wrong. It's been a few months. I'm just pathetic and lonely. I was ingnored here when I was in need. I logged back knowing that little has probably changed. I was "great" when I was the one replying. When I reached out, I was left to fall. Why login again? I'm pathetic. I guess this should be refunded in the 7 cups 'motto'.
@JeffWM

How nice that you personalized the canned responce by adding my name.

You are welcome @JeffWM!
@BeyondTheInvisible
I sincerely hope that, as a human and as a listener here, you realize that your post is insulting.
While I was here and active, I tried to read new posts and tried to let the person posting that I heard them and although I could never truly understand the emotions they were going through, that their feelings were 'valid'. I spent much more time reading (and often re-reading their posts) to try to draw the better parts of myself out so I could genuinely say and feel that they should find it in their heart to treat themselves with loving kindness and compassion. I'm sure many of my posts seem to resonate the same response, I can assure you that much heartfelt thought went into them. Even as a writer, I know that the moment we attempt to put feelings into words, those very words betray us.
I read each post and regarded each person posting as a unique individual that, in some way, was suffering. In my personal life, I made every attempt to seriously absorb this time and time again and bring myself to the point where I would (just as a parent would with their child) take their suffering onto myself. That, to me, would not be a hardship but a deep-seated gift to me.
I sincerely hope that at some point, you come to the realization that many posts come from deep inside: that each time one is posted, it comes from a very fragile part of an individual who deserves to be regarded as a gift to you. Without that gift, you would be unable to learn what the other may need. Often times it is only just to be recognized-- to be 'heard'.
Take that bit of advice for whatever it is worth to you, but please don't demean yourself by responding especially with the obvious lack of thought or caring.
@JeffWM
Sorry @JeffWM if i offended you, it was not my intention at all.
It is focusing on the need to be "heard" that i thought to share the resources thanks to which comeone can find support, i did not check your profile to see if you are here since long time so that you could already be aware of them.
I am really sorry, when you thanked me i thought you really meant it.
@BeyondTheInvisible
To me (although I very well may be wrong) it appears you didn't even glance and the thread that I had started a year ago. When one responds to a post, I take it as accepting a type of commitment. I believe it's a serious undertaking.
I personally put a lot of thought into my responses. I would read each post again and again. Maybe my responses seem to have repeating themes; that is just part of who I am.
In general, this thread caused me great pain. After many posts that I laboured over, mine was completely ignored. I wanted to believe that this site was different. For me, sadly it is not.
I am writing this only because I believe in the premise of 7 Cups. If the users don't make this a healthful and helpful site, it will fade away as so many other sites have. I tried very hard to be a part of what I believed was lacking in other sites. I chose to involve myself in a variety of threads, attempting to respond to new threads, often by new users. I can understand why some would be hesitant to go one on one with a listener. I can understand why some may be hesitant to try the chat rooms. For me at least, the forums are a place where I can spend time writing and rewriting until I felt comfortable pressing 'post'.
I think we should refrain from copy & pasting advertising links to the different things this site has to offer. That is on the login page. Posting it in an involved thread does not serve the site well. This site and those who end up here deserve more; they deserve the grace, patience, and loving kindness you would show a loved one.
Please don't bother responding. I honestly think that most of what is in this thread is beyond what you desire to understand. It's not my site so take this for whatever you would like.
I remain,
