That someone needs to be you. As we get older, we come to the realization that we have to rely on ourselves rather than on others. It’s really the fair thing to do. Every person has problems and it’s not okay to put your issues on someone else’s plate. Of course, we help each other but that temporary help is most often in the form of a friend listening to our problems, not keeping a trail of checking on you repeatedly and being your behavior police. I will happily loan you lunch money or give you a ride and etc. but I would rather not have to worry about asking if you are on-track and have to “hold you accountable.”.
