Depressed or Just Down in the Dumps? Here is what I did. (True Story)
I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to share a personal story with you about how I discovered the transformative power of kindness and how it led me down the path of helping others.
As a young boy, around 11 or 12, I experienced a deep sadness that lingered for weeks. Despite my parents' concern and efforts to help me, I couldn't pinpoint the root of my feelings. It was a challenging time, and I felt lost and disconnected from my usual self.
My mother, sensing my distress, suggested I help someone in need. At such a young age, this felt like a daunting task, but she encouraged me to offer my time and assistance to our neighborhood veterinarian by taking their dogs for walks after school and on weekends, free of charge.
To my surprise, this simple act of kindness was transformative for me. It set me on a path of helping others, which I have continued to this day. Over the years, I have expanded my efforts from animals to people and have served as a listener and mentor for over 50 years. Even in retirement, I still have plenty of free time to support those in need through systems like 7Cups and my community.
I'm sharing this story with you because I believe that helping others can be transformative for the person receiving help and the person offering it. It brings me great joy to know that I can make a positive difference in those around me and have found a sense of purpose and fulfillment through helping others.
I hope my story inspires you to consider ways to help those in need. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture; even small acts of kindness can significantly impact. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and I wish you all the best.
Warm regards,
JustMeForYou
