For-giving?

Often English can be simplified until one wants to slap duct tape over mouths and spend the rest of their lives in a float tank.

Take forgiveness for example. Break it down a bit and you get for giving, or someone who is for, and therefore not against, giving...but giving what? And God forbid one gives anything to a jerk, or to the self after they've sunk into a cesspool of shame.

Nonetheless being 'for-giving' reigns and can build a Simon-esque bridge over the troubled waters of the past and future, no longer allowing it to be a turbulent crossing in one's life, even something to drown in or fish for three eyed fish the rest of our lives (Ew.).

What does being forgiving mean to you? How would you describe it to a friend struggling to comprehend it, or anyone? I'm very interested to know! Also, what's your favourite food/drink?

@communicativePond1728 forgiving is something I think only the very strong can do. I'm never gonna forgive my owners, I just can't even begin to even think about forgiving them

I like coffee😋 and icecream😋😋😋😋

@Tinywhisper11 yeah I don't think I'm going to forgive the people who ignored, assaulted or abused me either. These people don't deserve the slightest consideration or energy from me. But I don't see how to keep that perspective. I keep going in and out of it :/

@communicativePond1728 gives you a giant tiny hug ❤❤ maybe you keep going in and out of it, cause your a very kind and loving person, who wants to get better, you don't wish harm to your abusers, and you don't seek revenge. Your kind is strong, your heart is beautiful, so it's hard for you to hate

@communicativePond1728 I beleive, in short, that it boils down to remembering and accepting the fallibility of every human being. Also, I believe there comes a time when we all need forgiveness, too, so we best be forgiving of others in kind.

@Snor1ax that's true. People are fallible. Where I become confused is the dividing line between boundaries and forgiveness.

To me forgiveness seems to come with giving someone the space to do such things again because of how poorly and unjustly I was treated and for so long.

So building some kind of confidence and trust back into my self so I can let go without letting it steamroll my body, mind and spirit in the process is going to be one heck of a process...

@communicativePond1728

forgiving is to pat someone on the back and say " you are only human and we all make mistakes. what you did was not unredeemable so take my hand and if I did have an antagonizing in this then I am sorry and what you did you can come back from. so let us shake hands and put this behind us so we can forget it in a while."

Or if its for yourself. It means to recognize that you have done the best you could do and if you messed up that's ok you are human. apologize and truly mean it do your best to learn from it and want to do better next time. Unless its one of the unredeemable then please see your self to the facility and tell the cops the whole truth so that you can be set free and forgiven.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read “for giving” is something Lana Del Rey wrote in her poem (Past The Bushes Cypress Thriving:

Say goodbye now

    no resisting

Live your life like

   no one's listening

Be the art that life is breathing

Be the soul the world is living.

Do what you want

For you only

Not for giving

Just for taking

No one's listening

@Chem01 oof. Very melancholic and dark expression of being immersed into shadow work. It's not a frolic through the fall leaves that's for sure but when one is bound body, mind and spirit in worry about what others will hear then they remain a servant to someone else's limitations forever...
