I’m new to the group and am glad to have found this safe space. This week has been a much better one for me.

I have been married for 33 years, when I met my husband it was at a half way house, I was sent there after I got done with my 30 day treatment program and he was there for treatment.

We both started out working a program of sobriety, utilizing the 12 steps program, had sponsors…etc.

After several years of sobriety, foolishly, we both thought we could drink again.

We ended up having a child and I stopped and didn’t want to let that interfere with parenting.

Fast forward 30 plus years, many ups and downs, my husband still struggles with drinking and drugs and so does our grown child.

There are days that I just can’t live with the manipulation and lies that living with an addict does.

We go through days/weeks of down, dark times that I know it’s time for me to take a stand for my mental health and then it’s like he senses this and gets it together and cools it.

I hate the disease of addiction!

I takes good, kind, loving people and wreaks havoc.

I’m grateful for to have an outlet like this, cause I know today may be a good day but it probably won’t last.

Thank you all for listening 🤍👂🏼🫶🏼

@limeWalker6496 Welcome! I see you're 1 week in on 7cups, and I'm so glad that you have this platform available to you as the outlet you need. I read you're post and I wanted to say thank you for being brave and for sharing your story. I applaud you for all your efforts of trying to break free of addiction. I applaud you for not letting it define you as a person. I applaud you that even when you had a weak moment, you were strong enough to make the decision to think of your baby. The journey of addiction is not easy. I applaud your husband's efforts as well and I hope one day he is able to break free from the addictions and anything holding him back from being his best self. It's so unfortunate that your adult child is now experiencing the same things. Addiction really is a disease like you said and it destroys everything. Remember though, these are people you love most. You have "been there, done that" so to speak so you know this is not them. You are such an amazing, strong person and I'm so grateful there are people like you in this world. I'm sorry you are hurting though and seeing the damage first hand of what addiction can do to people. I hope one day your husband is able to break free with the help of your support and endless love and truly has the desire to make changes. I hope one day your child, no matter the age, is able to see what an amazing parent you are and can learn from the past mistakes of you and your husband. I believe 100% that people are capable of truly changing. It is hard but possible. Please continue doing well, be patient and forgiving, love unconditionally, and remain strong. A person like you is rare and valuable. I'm so glad you're here to share your story and please know you never have to be alone. Support is here if you ever need someone to talk to. ♡♡♡

Thank you kindly!

I appreciate your words and support.

It has been so long since I have spoken about my past and I am so scared to tell some of my family, very grateful to have a place to feel free to share and find support 🙏🏼

I do have have a few girl friends who understand and have similar circumstances, but it’s nice to have a different perspective that I know won’t go anywhere else.

Thank you so much!
