I think everyone dislike me.
I am a college student, I spend whole first year mostly Alone in Library and in second year I am trying to be friend with my classmate. I am not so good with people, I don't know how to be deal with people, I am worried if people arounde like or dislike me. I heard some people talk about me on my back and maybe there are some more people also who do so.
I am having social anxiety so whatever I do in public I feel so judged even noone is looking at me, and i feel criticized internally. I have a fear that none around me likes me as I can see most people hate me or how I behave or what I do and most people just act like they don't dislike me but internally they do. And sometimes I feel like i should go back to be alone again and don't meet anyone like in first sem. But I don't know, what is right. Am I being paranoid or it's just anxiety which make me feel that way.
@exuberantTalker9747 Hey Talker, welcome to 7 Cups! You're not alone in feeling uncertain about how others perceive you. As a student in college myself, college can be a challenging time, and it's completely normal to have concerns about social interactions and worry about being judged. Be sure to check out
@exuberantTalker9747 I know what you're going through
I'm also a second year college student and I've had my struggles with social anxiety as well. It's very easy to be wrapped up in what other people think about you, in what they say and how they act, especially if you have yet to find a community of your own. I'm proud that you're trying to make friends (it can be a very scary process!) and take steps. Trust me when I say that you don't want to go back to being alone. Sometimes loneliness is desirable, especially when it's familiar. But people need connection, and I know it's so easy for me to type these words. I know it's much harder to actually live out and let others see you. But please don't feel bad for taking up space, for existing. It's okay to be human. It's okay to exist and be seen and influence the lives of those around you.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I know it can be really scary, especially when you're not used to being seen or even acknowledged by other people. (Not to mention the fact that most people are too wrapped up in their own individual heads and universes to analyze you the same way you analyze yourself). But you deserve to exist and take up space. Not everything you do or say is an annoyance. People don't hate you, most people will simply not invest the time or energy into that. Someone first has to know you to actually hate you.
People may get annoyed at certain things, but that's okay. Occasionally annoying someone or doing something "strange" isn't a curse or a death threat. And most people probably aren't going to notice the little details you see anyways! You are your own worse critic. Most people will simply not pick apart everything you say or do the same way you do. And in case someone does notice something that is "weird" or whatever, it's not like you can appease every person anyways. It's going to take some time to really settle in (it's easy to be a people pleaser, especially if you feel like you don't have a ton of people looking out for you) but it's true.
TL;DR: most people aren't going to critic you the same way you critic yourself, they're too busy thinking about themselves and their lives (everyone lives in their own universe). And in case you're worried about someone seeing you as "weird", you will never please everyone, even if you want to. Embrace being seen as strange! Embrace the fact that you're human. You will be too loud or take up too much space or say the wrong thing. And it's okay, trust me. It takes time to accept, yes. But you can do it, just one step at a time.
